Artigas Arquitectes searched of the distinction and singularity of this house, located in Barcelona,that arises from the idea of creating an ideal habitable space in the interior of a pure and light volume, which has a regular shape and is permeable to the excellent natural conditions and location.
Our project consists of alterations and additions to an existing 1890’s duplex cottage on Bellevue Terrace in Fremantle.
The briefed starting point for our intervention was to improve the relationship between internal and external spaces that previously suffered on account of a 1.5m level variance and the inconvenient location of an existing bathroom.
The‘homes of the future’,previously the stuff of fantasy exhibited only in World’s Fairs and science fiction, are increasingly becoming a reality. Automation and connectivity are making it possible for today’s smart homes to integrate information technologies through which systems and appliances are able to communicate in an integrated way, resulting in vastly increased convenience, energy efficiency, safety and security.
The Modern Tube House is modeled after a traditional Hanoi tube house. These houses are so long and so deep that they typically have internal courtyards to provide natural light and natural ventilation at mid-block locations. Passage through the house is a movement between inside and outside, external space and internal space.
The drive behind this commission was a lady investor who sought Martin Martin Rajniš with the request to try and design a studio to fit among some stone houses. There was already an old stone wall on the site, defining a small area below the street level and overlooking a river valley.
Against a backdrop of rugged dunes typical of the Buenos Aires coastline, with a beautiful landscape, we were commissioned to design a house, with the request for a program of regular needs for a weekend house and a limited budget. The proposal seeks to preserve the most of the wonderful qualities of the place.
