CASA PATIOS in Lima, Perú by Riofrio + Rodrigo Arquitectos

Tuesday, January 24th, 2017

Article source: Riofrio + Rodrigo Arquitectos

The design objective of the project was to elongate the volume of the residence so as to take full advantage of the extensive plot. To achieve this, the traditional typology of a house-courtyard was reinterpreted thereby creating a succession of open spaces contained by the final building.

Junction Shadow House in Toronto, Canada by POST Architecture

Sunday, January 22nd, 2017

Article source: POST Architecture

The Junction Shadow House is a semi-detached residential dwelling that began as a mirror-image of its attached neighbour. Early in the design process, it became evident that the previous additions (front room over the porch, rear Mud Room) were structurally compromised and threatening to destabilize the original masonry structure. As a result, they were demolished, leaving the shell of the original house to work with, in the shadow of its longer neighbour. Natural light was not available from all sides, so the design focused on maximizing the light penetrating from the south, as well as moving it through the house as much as possible. The interiors are a bright white colour and the spaces are visually interconnected on all levels through a feature staircase, creating views and plays with shadows on all levels.

Casa LB4 in Piura, Perú by Riofrio + Rodrigo Arquitectos

Sunday, January 22nd, 2017

Article source: Riofrio + Rodrigo Arquitectos

This project was developed under the constraints given by the client and the extreme temperatures and climate in the city of Piura. In response to the client’s needs, a compact house was appropriate but in order to ensure the house remained cool in extreme heat, we decided to turn the volume to be parallel to the longest side of the lot. From here, cross ventilation was maximized and the house was protected against the strength of afternoon sun. The result is an elongated volume in the middle of the plot which enjoys the open space from all the rooms within the house. Finally, the terrace is a contiguous space to the larger but compact volume, thereby giving it a preferential position to the garden.

It is Grazalema mountain range the one that creates a wall to high humidity winds coming from Atlantic Ocean.

Because of that, in this part of the south of Spain there is one of the highest rainfall index from Iberian peninsula. Climatology from Subbetica mountain range draws the proposal placed in a large plot where you can see the landscape from Sierra Nevada to African coast.

Bunga Low – low energy refurbishment of a sixties bungalow in Sint-Denijs-Westrem, Belgium by urbain architectencollectief

Sunday, January 22nd, 2017

Article source: urbain architectencollectief

In this project a solitary sixties bungalow with a gentle sloped roof was refurbished and extended.

A new clear plan was distilled from the existing, with a maximum relation with the garden.

The existing rooms on the northern facade of the bungalow were adjusted in order to form a functional strip, serving as entrance hall, bathroom, storage rooms and a private office space. The living spaces were aligned in an open space along the southern facade, benefiting from large windows that give acces to morning and afternoon terraces and the garden. Two furniture elements divide the open space: a fireplace and a kitchen cabinet.

Dogok Maximum in Seoul, Korea by Moon Hoon

Friday, January 20th, 2017

Article source: Moon Hoon

It reflects the client’s personality in a frank manner. Considering that the client, who had dreamt all kinds of mysterious dreams only to overcome them while living in a house built on a rock of mystical forces at a high area of Gangbuk, Seoul, purchased the plot of a fortuneteller and a shaman beside a tall wall in Gangnam, this is a world that must be full of many unexplainable things. In contemporary terms, this building would be considered a mixed-use narrow house, combining a basement studio for the client’s son, a photographer, a reception area, as well as a residence for mother and son that has been equipped with a compact elevator to account for the weakened joints of the elderly.

Domus Aurea in Nuevo León, México by GLR Arquitectos in collaboration with architect Alberto Campo Baeza

Friday, January 20th, 2017

Article source: GLR arquitectos

Placed in one of the most exclusive and privileged zones of Monterrey with an incomparable view towards the “Sierra Madre Oriental”, we found the “Sorteo Tec’s House 202”.

The residence is a tribute to Barragán, a great Mexican architect in whose designs abounds the strong presence of the light. This brightness is being reinterpreted in the project with a stunning wall covered in a golden sheet, which is also a tribute to another great artist named Mathias Goeritz.
Its shinning gives the home a magical touch that extends across the entire building, like a modern Domus Aurea.
