Maison R in Coppet, Switzerland by Lacroix Chessex Architectes

Thursday, August 25th, 2016

Article source: Lacroix Chessex Architectes

This house from 1936 is surprising by its height, much more important than houses from the neighborhood. The cover (roof and frontage) has to be renovating because of massive thermal losses. Moreover the owner finds his house to big and wishes to rent a part of it. So the mission is to reset up reconfigure the inside and rethink all the external cover, which means proposing a new architectural expression.

Article source: Studio Duearchitetti

A quick and synthetic sketch of the entrance portico was instinctively drawn after our first visit to the house. Almost as a necessity.

We wanted to catch the spirit of the house. We wanted immediately to find the germ of our project.

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016

Article source: Luciano Kruk

Mar Azul, a seashore town in Villa Gesell Department, neighboring Mar de las Pampas, had its sand dunes terrain divided into a grid pattern. Its dense aged pinewood grants Mar Azul’s atmosphere pleasant quietness and tranquility.

In a modest, 210 square meter plot of land on a corner, eight blocks away from the sea, rises H3, a minimum tread house designed to make the most of the parcel’s dimensions and the natural surroundings.

The commissioner: 3 sisters and each of their families.

Haus Dolomitenblick in Sexten, Italy by Plasma Studio

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016

Article source: Plasma Studio

The building is located on a hillside in the Dolomites, at the end of a residential area.

The volume has been developed mainly from its pragmatic functional request to host 6 independent apartments with one common circulation: through a cut that marks the main access and the division of the units the volume is splitted into 2 halves. Besides its functional meaning this incision becomes the main defining element of the building: from the cut at either side a strip unfolds that forms the balustrade of a generous covered balcony and ends into the surrounding topography. Following the steep natural hillside with each floor the strips and the façade jump back.

In Jorge Luis Borges’ novel of same title, ‘El Aleph’ is the one site which contains all the places in the universe, as well as all stars, all lamps, and all sources of light. It is also the first character of Hebrew, and the beginning locus of every memory.

West Hills Residence in Portland, Oregon by FIELDWORK Design & Architecture

Sunday, August 21st, 2016

Article source: FIELDWORK Design & Architecture

Located in the West Hills above downtown Portland, the project consisted of renovating an existing indoor swimming pool room and transforming an unfinished basement utility and storage area into a wine cellar and changing room. The primary inspiration was the environment in which the project is sited- immersed in the forest, with framed views of Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens. The goals were threefold: to remodel the lower level of the house into an environment that was timeless and consistent with the original character of the mid-century modern residence, to create a seamless connection to the outdoors, and to create a peaceful and therapeutic atmosphere for the clients and their family and friends to enjoy.
