Single House Re-Using a Former Water Cistern in Madrid, Spain by Valdivieso Arquitectos

Saturday, March 25th, 2017

Article source: Valdivieso Arquitectos

Building a single-occupancy home over a former water cistern was the starting point of the project. The site, subsequently altered over time, reached its final configuration circa 1955. It has two levels, facing south, and has remained unaltered since then. The site is part of a low-density suburban environment, which belongs to a development model distinctive of peripheral areas, characteristic of the first third of the 20th century as the summer stays residential areas in the mountain range of Madrid. The site contains typical scrubland vegetation, increased with non-native but suitable species, conditioned by the region´s dry continental climate (very warm summers and very cold winters).

Black lodge and a walnut tree in Gorski kotar, Croatia by Tomislav Soldo, PRO-S

Saturday, March 25th, 2017

Article source: Tomislav Soldo, PRO-S

The genesis of this house might have a somewhat peculiar narrative. The possibly reversed but certainly not unwanted process of conceiving and designing the space where the foremost sensory role has the nature itself.

Initially, before everything else, there was a walnut tree, providing perfect natural shade and representing the first outdoor residing space. Over time, a terrace was gradually shaped around the tree, and eventually the idea of building the house emerged.

MON factory / house in Kyoko- City, Japan by EASTERN design office

Friday, March 24th, 2017

Article source: EASTERN design office

The holes are lined up on a cross shape. The hole is made on the architecture like the perforated line. This architecture is “House with Crest”.

A light that penetrates into the architecture always moves and never stays. It is a symbolical spectacle. A light that goes through the hole is projected in a circle shape, moves unlimitedly, and never stays. Occasionally, it disappears, and it appears.

Behind the somewhat mysterious name ‘Project X’, hides the design of René van Zuuk and his family’s own residence. The villa with a small office space is located next to the architect’s former residence Psyche, in Almere’s The Fantasy district, an area for experimental housing. His old house now serves as the architects office since 2004, it occurred that the two plots could be consolidated into one garden. Article source: Vo Trong Nghia Architects

This is a residential house located in Gialai city, central Vietnam. The site is 7-meters wide and 40-meters deep, and is one of the typical lots for “tube house”, a traditional typology for residences in the province.

In this house, the long corridor, which is an unavoidable factor for tube houses to connect bedrooms, is transformed into a continuous and sequential space to serve the functions of living and dining spaces, as well as an “outdoor living” space.

GOUNOD Residence in Montréal, Canada by APPAREIL architecture

Thursday, March 23rd, 2017

Article source: v2com

The young Montreal firm faced a major challenge when it was mandated to renovate this duplex located in Villeray from A to Z. Its new and singular appearance distinguishes it from others in the neighborhood and forms a bridge between past and present.

The residence, located in a socially effervescent neighborhood, had everything to please the young owners except a bright living space, adapted to their needs. With its finesse and expertise, the team gave a new lease of life to the duplex’s existing structure, now transformed into a single-family dwelling. The entire exterior façade, as well as the interior design, were fully revitalized while respecting their original style.
