TREE VILLA at Forest Hills in Maharashtra, India by Architecture BRIO

Monday, September 18th, 2017

Article source: Architecture BRIO

The Tree Villa perches on the cliff of a 160 acre hilltop ‘treesort’ property surrounded by a meandering river landscape. The idyllic setting in Tala on the West coast of India, is a stone’s throw away from the Kuda caves. Nearly 20 centuries ago, Buddhist monks instinctively understood the qualities of this meditative landscape and made the hills their home. The Tree Villa was conceived by Architecture BRIO as a celebration of this landscape by creating  a series of blurred transitional spaces with different levels of transparency and openness within this forested tropical setting.

RK House in Paraná, Brazil by AP Architetos

Monday, September 18th, 2017

Article source: AP Architetos

AP Arquitetos was founded in 2010 and seeks to establish a contemporary architectural language, experimental and still focused on local and historical values. We understand architecture much more as a methodological process in which several professionals act together. With this vision we can reach new ideas and concepts that can be applied in a practical way and with a high degree of innovation and experimentalism. Our process works each project in a unique way, that is, with a “tailoring” thought. The firm has projects in several Brazilian cities besides Peru, Italy and the USA.

Roof and Rectangular House in Tomakomai, Japan by Jun Igarashi Architects

Sunday, September 17th, 2017

Article source: Jun Igarashi Architects

I keep on design activities in Hokkaido, so most of my projects ran there. By designing in a remarkably cold, I continued thinking on response to completely different contexts from other areas. They are mainly “cold” and “snow”. Of course there are other various things to deal with, but these contexts have the great impact. In this state, I felt the possibility of “a windbreak room” and thought about the expansion and diversity.

Palm Beach Project in Sydney, Australia by Alexander&Co

Sunday, September 17th, 2017

Article source: Alexander&Co

Palm Beach House project is the transformation of an existing waterfront holiday villa in Palm Beach, Sydney. The project is a restrained approach to a traditional European vernacular, exploring bespoke quality detailing, materiality and architectural framing.

With the existing house ineffectively dealing with scale limitations, the brief was primarily to explore how we could reintroduce a higher quality of spatial resolution. The plans and volumes were subsequently rationalized around better circulation, view corridors and access to the water.

House Embracing Sky in Seoul, Korea by ArchiWorkshop

Friday, September 15th, 2017

Article source: ArchiWorkshop

“House Embracing Sky” is the second residential project by Archiworkshop in MangWoo district in Seoul.

It was built on a site, which has land area of 108.9. The border of the site was invading to and by its neighbors’ building, and the road for construction was not completely secured. Allowing building coverage ratio of the site 50%, there was only 56m2 to build. We had a thorough consideration on various issues, such as maximizing building coverage ratio, minimizing any problem with neighbors and their lands, rational application of architectural slant line restriction for daylight, etc. Due to building code, inclined facade was formed. The inclined facade has issues of getting polluted due to dust storm and air pollution. At the beginning, we tried to hide this slope but then we switch our thought and developed to an idea ‘what if this can be well appeared in different way?’. The inclined facade turned into a mirror Facade, which embraces sky and capture a change of the scenery while the mirror mass is unrecognizable and disappears. The rough surface of black brick facade and smooth mirror facade gives a great contrast. The shaded portion of the black mirror captures the sky and such reflection can been seen by publics on the ground floor. The mass with one side slash might have been the biggest concern at the beginning, but it became the signature of the building.

Eira House in Vale de Cambra, Portugal by AR Studio Architects

Thursday, September 14th, 2017

Article source: AR Studio Architects

Located in the city of Vale de Cambra, the Casa da Eira (literally “The House of the threshing-floor”) was a rehabilitation challenge with about 400m2 of construction.

A century-old house that was very degraded and needed a major overhaul, that would revive the memory of the original design without forgetting the current needs. The owner wanted a residence where he could have a traditional and familiar setting, not forgetting its irreverent and creative side. A place where friends are always welcome.

Article source: Luigi Rosselli Pty Ltd – Architects

The wraparound swimming pool plays the starring role in these alterations and additions and becomes the architectural pivot that binds one hundred years of history.

The organic two-storey addition at the back of a single storey 1910 cottage is surrounded by a swimming pool and the water is the focus that holds the two distinct sections of the house together.
