Summer-house in Lipno, Czech Republic by B² Architecture

Tuesday, July 26th, 2016

Article source: B² Architecture

A young couple has purchased a lot in a resort area of Lipno. The lot was located in the woods of the local foothills. An old summer-house, that had been built on the lot in the 80s, needed to be turned into a primary residence for this young couple. They both love the outdoors and wanted to be closer to the nature around. The main goal of the house’s redesign was to keep its simple form and to create a connection between the nature outside and the interior.

This modern rammed earth house is located in Ayerbe, a little village in the Spanish Pyrenees. Rural migration in the region during middle 20th century led to the disappearance of traditional architecture techniques. This house attempts to awaken the interest of the community and the curiosity about this type of sustainable buildings that are strongly linked to the territory. The project has been inspired by old local earthen buildings regarding their orientation, morphology and the use of local materials.

Libertad street House in Montevideo, Uruguay by Arquitectos Pedro Livni + Karin Bia

Thursday, July 21st, 2016

Article source: Federico Cairoli

Starting with the aforementioned demands and the conviction of designing an urban house, two ideas relative to the spatial organization prevailed above the rest.

The first consisted of appealing to the horizontal dimension: this was materialized through the configuration of the living spaces in an open plan set at street level. In this manner it established a link and an uninterrupted prolongation of the interiority and domestic uses onto the exterior spaces. Continuity only mediated and protected from the street noise by green spaces. This was achieved with the application of diverse mobile walls which with their hiding and different configurations enable the spatial performance.
