Yesterday’s House in Valencia, Spain by Raul Garcia Studio

Sunday, February 18th, 2018

Article source: Raul Garcia Studio

Architecture arises from the need to give shelter to human beings from climatology. Aesthetics is then added to this practical component. Therefore, generating a ‘shelter’ that protects us from the outside while allowing us to be in perfect contact with the same on both sides is a really attractive idea. From this premise arises the refurbishment of this house, open to the outside through a backyard. In addition, as always, natural light penetrates the interior through skylights and interior partitions crowned with glass that provide zenithal light to the whole space. The program is divided into two heights, the lower one with the day program and the upper one that collects the bedrooms and other nocturnal uses. The backyard can be read as much as a continuation on the exterior of the home, as an extension of the garden that culminates in a barbecue and living room. And it is precisely this duality that allows the boundaries between architectural spaces to blur.

Brucato House in Los Angeles, California by Martin Fenlon Architecture

Friday, February 16th, 2018

Article source: Martin Fenlon Architecture

The Brucato house is a rare example of new construction within a Historic Preservation Zone (HPOZ) in the city of Los Angeles. Located in the Highland Park-Garvanza district, which is the largest HPOZ in Los Angeles, the project consists of a new house that replaced the client’s small, aging bungalow. Since the original house was determined to be historically insignificant, its replacement would have to be compatible with the historic context and subject to the HPOZ board’s approval. And with a limited budget, it was critical to reuse certain elements of the structure, such as the existing foundation and parts of the existing framing.

FGV house in Catania, Italy by Tuttiarchitetti

Friday, February 16th, 2018

Article source: Tuttiarchitetti

From 1 room of 48 sqm to 4 rooms of 16 sqm: increase of surfaces, multiplication of space. Two overturned and turned 90 ° turnstiles – in birch plywood panels – operate this magic, also providing the “disappearance” of the metal loft, heavy burden of the previous real estate RE-structuring, and returning “air” to the compartment. The space is so circular: from the living room, to the kitchen, to the study, to the upper bedroom: that from the living room, on the study, connected to the kitchen by a yellow monochrome staircase “dug out” in the birch portals; as well as the front desk counter.
