Article source: Felipe Alarcón Carreño Arquitecto

Buildings not only convey their physical characteristics, but also symbolic values attributable to experiences and memories, including what we imagine and what we know.

In the case of a house, the bond between the user and the building represents a relationship that gains in symbolic value with everyday use.

Urban beach home in Barcelona, Spain by Egue y Seta

Tuesday, April 11th, 2017

Article source: Egue y Seta

Whether you like it or not, Barcelona, for many non-locals, is also, a beach. A beach bathing the shores of an open-air museum, a coast line bursting with tapas bars and the seafront of a real city with its very own customs and history. But always, even more so during the summer, a beach. A beach that attracts real estate investors who want to turn the whole into a touristic resort, but also a spot that catches the eye and stills the heart of young couples in love that, in the antipodes of the above, try to capture the very essence of the Barcelonian´s way of life in a few square meters with a view to turn them into their own summer private retreat. This was the case of Jacques and Hannes and their cozy little flat in the heart of the traditional fisherman´s neighborhood of La Barceloneta.

Grid in Japan by Satoshi Kurosaki / APOLLO Architects & Associates

Sunday, April 9th, 2017

Article source: Satoshi Kurosaki / APOLLO Architects & Associates

The client for this project has a large art collection, and wanted to start a new chapter in life with his family in a house with museum-like qualities that would take advantage of this collection. The neighborhood surrounding the site is quiet, so in order to keep noise to a minimum and not create an intrusive feeling, we proposed a single-story reinforced concrete structure. Like the exterior, the interior features a monochrome color scheme that serves as a good background for artwork. The building and finishing materials were also carefully selected and kept to a minimum, giving the spaces an austere atmosphere.

Black Flying House in Czech Republic by H3T Architekti

Sunday, April 9th, 2017

Article source: BoysPlayNice

Black flying house hovers under the arch of the old railway bridge. Attracts attention, entices you to visit and raises questions. Black flying house is an installation which is composed of a living room with a stove and a sleeping loft. The object is suspended by steel cables. The installation includes also a ladder that is hidden nearby. It’s a bit of a conundrum that encourages passers-by to think. Its archetypal depiction adds the mysterious atmosphere of the military complex. This area is located just 15 minutes walking from the city centre of town Pardubice, Czech Republic. The formal solution is succinct. The resulting picture almost picturesque.

Parterre One in Kaserne Basel, Switzerland by FOCKETYN DEL RIO STUDIO

Sunday, April 9th, 2017

Article source: FOCKETYN DEL RIO STUDIO

Parterre One is located in Kaserne Basel, a heritage protected ensemble in the heart of Basel. Kaserne used to be military barracks and has been converted into a cultural hub for the last 50 years, since the army left. Our client had a new vision for his corner: he had a restaurant, a bar, and a venue that were next to each other but never worked together. Our mission was to make one cultural and leisure pole with the three of them.  Within this frame the project became an architectural geode: an existing building with refreshed facades and a surprising interior around a thunderbolt gallery.

2 HOUSES IN 1 in MONTREUX, SWITZERLAND by SBSA I Sandri Barbara Smaniotto Andrea Architetti Associati

Friday, April 7th, 2017

Article source: SBSA I Sandri Barbara Smaniotto Andrea Architetti Associati

The project fits into a small plot in a highly inclined terrain overlooking the Geneva Lake. It is a urban plot where it is allowed a building of 4 levels above the floor of the garage. The shape of the building comes from the need to rework an existing project according to the Swiss town planning regulations: the result was an irregular and faceted prism.
