Casa 4.16.3 in Erechim, Brazil by Luciano Lerner Basso, architect

Wednesday, November 30th, 2016

Article source: Luciano Lerner Basso, architect

House 4.16.3 is located in the city of Erechim, in the countryside of Rio Grande do Sul, brazilian state, around 400 km from the state capital, Porto Alegre. The region has a subtropical climate, with warm, humid summers and chilly, rainy winters, which poses yet another challenge to the architect, in terms of habitability. Built on a terrain with a slope of twenty meters and several native plant species, the project sought to minimally alter the topography, proposing a building that lies on one of its highest parts and, from there on, develops sometimes accommodating itself on the natural profile and sometimes hovering over it.

Blake Residence in Melbourne, Australia by FINNEY CONSTRUCTIONS

Wednesday, November 30th, 2016

Article source: FINNEY CONSTRUCTIONS

This original 1970’s home was transformed into a striking modernist home totally unexpected in the more conservative Caulfield area.

A combination of Dado Render and Woodform Timber Batons on a curved wall creates the first impressions of this property, a far cry from the original façade that was dominated by a tin shed and a driveway.

A pivot door opens to the welcome area with curved walls that guide you to an impressive corridor with high ceilings and a gigantic view of the sky. All the doors off the corridor sit flushed against the wall, hung with pivot hinges and negative detailing surrounds. The bespoke timber circular door handles has an irresistible tactile quality that adds warmth to the space.

Shifter in Saguramo, Georgia by Stipfold

Wednesday, November 30th, 2016

Article source: Stipfold

The hillside house for a large family is gracefully flattened out on the landscape. The facade is simultaneously minimalistic and massive, marking the building’s modest and strong presence in nature. The multilayered open space in the backside of the house brings an inevitable sense of unexpectedness. The terraces in the garden with lounge areas and The playground carry a cosy vibe.

LE PLAN LIBRE in Taipei, Taiwan by Waterfrom Design

Wednesday, November 30th, 2016

Article source: Waterfrom Design

As the architect Mies Van der Rohe proposes “Skin and bones architecture”, we try to keep all structure expose with two long horizontal sliding windows. Except for providing the house a spacious view and ample sunlight, the exposed frame and glass blur the line between indoor and outdoor.

The cube extend from the facade is an intermediary space between indoor and outdoor. The stainless steel reflects the blue sky and merges the architecture with nature. On the roof garden, we designed a sink in the shape of giant milk box, which is toppled and sprinkled a pool of grass.

Ladrillo in Queensland, Australia by Shaun Lockyer Architects

Wednesday, November 30th, 2016

Article source: Shaun Lockyer Architects

Ladrillo (Spanish for ‘brick’) takes its cues from the Spanish Mission architectural style of the original Red Hill cottage. Utilising textured brick, recycled breezeblocks and original decorative plaster, this is architecture focused on textures – a fresh white palette not only unifies these textures, but also unites new and old. Punctuated by a central courtyard distinctly separating these spaces, the design maintains visual connections through the light, airy open architecture, which ultimately creates a beautiful backdrop for family life.

Arthouse in Kharkiv, Ukraine by Pominchuk Architects

Tuesday, November 29th, 2016

Article source: Pominchuk Architects

Arthouse is our first built project in the typology of terraced houses. The compact spatial layout of the house, made of several blocks, was largely determined by the small area of the plot and the surrounding urban context. The inner structure of each unit resembles an open “bookcase”, where each living process occupies its own level, all of them being interconnected by means of an open staircase. Besides, each block has its own backyard, which can be accessed from the kitchen-dining room. This unconventional layout of the house originally served as a key to the interior of each of the units. Permeated by sunlight, the interrupted space of the house prevails over colour, texture and other ornamental features. However, while designing the interior in one of the blocks belonging to a cheerful energetic lady, we had to find a compromise between the sterility of the house and its emotional component that could be experienced as warm homeliness. Our close collaboration with the client resulted in a sort of Mediterranean dwelling that combines all the necessary features, striking a delicate balance between integrity and emotions.

Tuesday, November 29th, 2016

Article source: Josep Ferrando Architecture

The architect Josep Ferrando resolves the complex urban conditions of the context and the site in which the house is located – less than 5 meters wide and with a particular topography that constrains the parcel between two streets situated at different heights – starting the conception of the project from the shaping of the volume.
