Chimney House in Logatec, Slovenia by dekleva gregorič architects

Wednesday, April 19th, 2017

Article source: dekleva gregorič architects

The design of the house is primarily based on the rules of local architecture. It respects the morphology of the traditional built context, referring to the prevailing gabled roof type of the house and respecting its volumetric and material parameters. On the other hand the Chimney house marks typological transformation generated by the users’ specificity.

BRICK HOUSE in Groenekan, Netherland by Zecc Architecten BV

Wednesday, April 19th, 2017

Article source: Zecc Architecten BV

The brick house stands on the verge of village and landscape. In this house village characteristics and landscape qualities meet. The architecture of this house is founded on a traditional brick design with rural characteristics. All the surrounding houses are brickwork and have a sloping roof with ceramic roof tiles. There is a sight of chimneys, overhangings, wooden shutters, alcoves and other subtle accents. A bright and modern house has been created by using and reinterpreting these ingredients. The typical shape of the roof rises from the landscape and the inside living areas are focused on the surrounding landscape. The house is embedded in its environment by its shape, spatial construction and the used materials. It is constructed almost exclusively out of one type of material: bricks! The elongated shapes of brickwork possess a strong differentiation and thereby connects with the rural character of the surroundings.

Sacramento Modern Residence in Orangevale, California by Klopf Architecture

Sunday, April 16th, 2017

Article source: Klopf Architecture

Architecture designed and Van Gelder Construction built a new warm, modern residence to replace an existing ranch home. The owners, who previously lived in a Streng home (similar to an Eichler), liked clean lines, simple details, and openness to the outdoors. The site is a large plot in a semi-rural area surrounded by an open field, large oak trees and a seasonal creek. It is a calm environment that invites a close connection with the house. The house is a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, and 2,633 square foot that is intended to be the home this couple will live in for a long time.

Sunday, April 16th, 2017

Article source: olson kundig

The Montecito Residence is a single-family home set in fire-prone Toro Canyon near Santa Barbara. The owners wanted a house that minimized the use of scarce natural resources and that was equal to the challenging environmental conditions of the site. The design solution was to harvest and control the very climatic conditions that put the canyon so at risk for fire: the sun and the wind.
