The initial aim of this project was the creation of a space that would unite indoors with outdoors, without losing privacy. Due to the limitation of the land (360m2), the idea was to ensure the best use of the spac-es, considering the angle of the sun. It is a large residence, with a social area fully connected to the ex-ternal area. The absence of walls and the use of frames ensures the full use of the natural light. In addi-tion, both the plate glass as well as the extension of the upper floor over the lower floor ensures better thermal comfort. Energy saving was also considered an essential factor for this project, such that, in all areas, LED lighting technology was used.

For Toms + McNally Design, Architecture is a response to context. Millgrove House, located in rural Hamilton, sits on a property that contained an abandoned apple orchard, and a hay-growing farm for local use. Situated between mature treelines and forests, the site is gently rolling. As a result, the design strategy was to use the topography in order to maintain a modest appearance from the street while providing a spacious home for a middle-aged couple with four adult children.

Casa crisp is the transformation of a modest 1.5 bedroom brick veneer cottage into a light-filled, environmentally inclusive home for a young family of 6.
The original cottage has been transformed into a modern beach house with a sophisticated interplay of natural materials and considered volumetric arrangement. A rectilinear timber form now sits atop the original brick veneer podium keeping much of the existing dwelling intact.

Gunung Sahari House is located in an urban high-density area in Central Jakarta on a 3-by-30-meter strip of land located between an existing house owned by the client’s family and the main access street to the site. The architects are asked to design a single-occupancy house that includes all of the basic amenities and a studio space. While the site is strategically located within the community with easy access to public transportation and facilities, the site’s unique shape and narrow access point bring several challenges to the design process from determining spatial placement of programs to planning the construction process.

Dan Brunn, AIA, Principal of Dan Brunn Architecture is designing a one-of-a kind “bridge house,” that will, literally, bridge over a stream. The 4,500-square-foot home will serve as a demonstration of innovative systems and forward-thinking processes. The design exemplifies Brunn’s signature minimalist aesthetic evident in dynamic spatial choreography of light and volume.
