Properly Breathing House in Hanoi, Vietnam by H&P Architects

Tuesday, November 29th, 2016

Article source: H&P Architects

A “suffocating” situation

Just 15 kilometers far from the center of Hanoi, the suburban district Dong Anh has witnessed pervasive urbanization – one of the major causes for a trend towards a maximum use of volume and quantity of construction areas. Lesser importance has been attached to the quality of used space and surrounding scenery. This has resulted in a large number of “suffocating” buildings as often found in newly planned, stuffy urban areas characterized with land plot subdivision for building row houses in Vietnam.

The Corner House in Queensland, Australia by Shaun Lockyer Architects

Tuesday, November 29th, 2016

Article source: Shaun Lockyer Architects

The Corner House is a contemporary design responding to a character vernacular in a quiet suburban street in inner-city Brisbane. The house is designed around three courtyards, offering a plan that transparently connects the indoor and outdoor living spaces. A simple but poetic palette of light, natural materials is the backdrop to a rich tapestry of shadows created by the screened elements that offer a reinterpretation of the traditional verandah.

House Benz in Stuttgart, Germany by Ippolito Fleitz Group

Saturday, November 26th, 2016

Article source: Ippolito Fleitz Group

Markus Benz, company director of prestigious furniture brand Walter Knoll, and his wife Susanne wished to find a Stuttgart base that would enable them to offer their business partners an alternative meeting place to the company headquarters 40 km away in Herrenberg on the edge of the Black Forest – and to live there too. The family found a property in the Kräherwald, a popular location above the city, and moved into what is known as a ‘coffee-grinder house’, typical of the 1920s. The house used to function as a doctor’s practice, so the layout was restored in line with its original purpose and with respect for the building’s structure and history. On one hand our task was to create a home environment that suited the family’s discerning aesthetic demands and offered a framework for their art collection. On the other hand, products from Walter Knoll were to be staged in an authentic and atmospheric context, far removed from trade fair and showroom presentations.

Terraces Home in Ha Tinh city, Vietnam by H&P Architects

Saturday, November 26th, 2016

Article source: H&P Architects

As a part in a chain of Agritecture development projects, Terraces home adopts the combination of Architecture and Agriculture (Agriculture + Architecture = Agritecture) as a basis for sustainable development.

The idea is to combine the two distinctive elements of Vietnam’s rural areas: The house (accommodation space) and terraced rice field (cultivation space) to create a Home with blurred boundaries in and out; above and below; common and private.

Article source: Shaun Lockyer Architects

This bold extension heavily inspired by our modernist leanings sits poetically atop its 33,000sqm bushland setting. The house explores ideas of transparency and solidity through the use of a heavy stone base juxtaposed against its heavily glazed, cantilevered pavilion above.

House in Rubielos de Mora, Spain by Ramón Esteve Estudio

Saturday, November 26th, 2016

Article source: Ramón Esteve Estudio

The essence of this project is a revision of a stately house, the traditional rural house that forms the old quarter of Rubielos de Mora and so the surroundings of our building. The traditional architecture is reviewed with a modern view so the house is integrated in its historical surroundings but it is also related to our present time. The external façade adheres to the style, materials, colours and proportion between solid and void of the historic buildings around.

House With a View in Mogilany, Poland by doomo

Saturday, November 26th, 2016

Article source: doomo

Timber elevation and roof (boards and shingle) are perfectly common to a local Polish nearmountain building tradition, which is exacly where the house is built. These natural materials will change during the time, they’ll “live” together with the seasons and wheather. Because of it with every passing month and year the building will blend more and more into the landscape.

KAP-House in Singapore by ONG&ONG Pte Ltd.

Saturday, November 26th, 2016

Article source: ONG&ONG Pte Ltd.

Reclined within a well-heeled residential enclave, KAP-House reposes behind wild grassland that grows from the remains of the old Malayan Railway. Placed on a plot that was once the sprawling garden of a classic colonial black and white bungalow, the home was imagined as a paradigm of modern tropical living.

Gallatin River Bank House in Big Sky, Montana by Prentiss + Balance + Wickline Architects

Saturday, November 26th, 2016

Article source: Prentiss + Balance + Wickline Architects

The River Bank House sits along the Gallatin River just outside Big Sky, Montana. The clients love to entertain, so the house was set up to create an open and casual atmosphere with a strong connection to the outdoors. The house is oriented toward the best view of the river while maintaining good solar orientation for taking advantage of solar heat gain in the winter and keeping out the hot summer sun. The large roof over the living room serves to shade large areas of glass in the summer, while geothermal heat pumps and high levels of insulation help keep it warm and energy efficient in the winter. In such an extreme climate the house was specifically designed to withstand both extremes of the temperature spectrum.

Rural Tourism Houses in Molino Lucero, Spain by elisavalero arquitectura

Friday, November 25th, 2016

Article source: elisavalero arquitectura

The plot where this work is situated was formerly a horse patio for the farm called Molino Lucero, at a crossroads between the Guadalteba reservoir and the town of Teba in the province of Malaga. The irregular, trapezoidal shape of this 475-meter plot and its access to an existing road on the north side were important determinants of the project. We also took into account the fine views of La Estrella Castle to the northeast, and the mountain range to the north and northeast.

The project is inspired by vernacular constructions with white walls and vertical openings and the criteria for this intervention were rationality, straightforwardness and good functioning.
