Casa AR in Mexico City, Mexico by ARCO Arquitectura Contemporánea

Tuesday, November 28th, 2017

Article source: ARCO Arquitectura Contemporánea

Casa AR is the result of remodeling and extending a residence —in a 1,000 sq m lot constructed in the 80´s— located on the west side of Mexico City. The spaces in the original project had the potential that tilted the balance on keeping most of them and working on making the modifications and extensions necessary for the new program. The public areas had ample spaces, but much reduced ones on the private areas; what lead to a mayor intervention in order to generate a wider opening and a clear visual communication among all the areas in the house.

Piedrabuena House in Ciudad Real, Spain by MUKA arquitectura

Tuesday, November 28th, 2017

Article source: MUKA arquitectura

Ceramics, in Piedrabuena house, acquires many qualities as a relevant element in the house. The continuing presence of this material in the municipality and the low budget suggested a proposal able to re-read its more material condition. In a plot of two and a half meters of façade, the use of an embossed clay slab, put off the edges of the floor slabs, acts as if it were a ceramic curtain. A curtain that hides any reference to the domestic size of the gaps and proposes itself to unify the surrounding façades. The scale disappears and the proposal enhances the link between existing buildings. The alternate arrangement of the module part to rope and on edge draws a porous and vibrant lattice. Vibrant is the play of shadows cast and changing, and porous because it filters the direct light that penetrates to the interior of the house on the vertical glass cloth behind her.

X House in Warsaw, Poland by STOPROCENT Architekci

Tuesday, November 28th, 2017

Article source: STOPROCENT Architekci

The X House was designed in rather extraordinary circumstances. Before any design work started, the client commissioned a series of talks/discussions on architecture with our team. During the meetings we discussed and analyzed many various houses from all around the world. The aim was, on one hand, to provide a wide context for the work, and on the other – to get to know better the needs of the client and his family. These architecture sessions allowed us to set the framework for the future house quite precisely. The X house is not only supposed to serve as a comfortable living space for the family of four, but also to allow each of the family members to pursue their individual passions. Therefore, on top of the regular scope of a single family house, the design needed to provide space for diving equipment, kites, surfboards, a quad, motorbikes, skiing equipment, bikes, rollerblades.

Article source: Compagnie-O architecten

This house is built on a plot located in an outlying area, behind a first row of typical Flemish landhouses (“fermettes”). An exceptional starting position: there are no direct neighbours – splendid isolation – and the building is barely subject to urban regulations.
