The Wood Duck in Québec, Canada by L’Abri

Wednesday, February 1st, 2017

Article source: L’Abri

The Wood Duck is L’Abri’s first built house design. A simple concept, rational plan and traditional methods of construction were put forward to simplify the construction of the project, self-build by a young carpenter with a modest budget. The architecture is humble : the little wood volume recedes in the landscape.

This little house was drawn for a young carpenter wishing to self-build his first home in Bolton, in the Eastern Townships of Quebec.

House Rheder II in Brakel, Germany by Falkenberg Innenarchitektur

Wednesday, February 1st, 2017

Article source: v2com

“In a time of excess we have built a house that makes the essentials tangible,” says the client.

The house has become a place of retreat, a building that deliberately withdraws and allows the surrounding landscape to present itself to the full. Over the softly rushing waters of the stream, with a wide view into the green East-Westphalian landscape, the stress and hustle and bustle of everyday life is quickly forgotten.

Cascade House in Hampstead, London by PATALAB Architecture

Tuesday, January 31st, 2017

Article source: PATALAB Architecture

Transformed into a vessel of natural light.

Situated in the heart of Hampstead Village, our proposal for this once rambling 18th century listed building was developed with local conservation authorities to respect the picturesque setting of the High Street and Perrin’s Court. As a result the external appearance harmonises with the historic setting, whereas the interior by contrast enabled us to design a series of bright and contemporary spaces enhanced with bespoke joinery and panelling.

House built for a couple with the idea of providing a contemplative and reflective space. This theme was addressed in two ways:

A more intimate, where the whole house is organized around a small patio and differences in levels. This internal patio allows a visual contact between the surroundings of the house, bringing the residents’ life together. Nature, on this small scale, can be observed according to the variations of the seasons.

Sliding Pergolas House in São Paulo, Brazil by FGMF

Tuesday, January 31st, 2017

Article source: FGMF

We were asked by a couple of a local University to design a residence of compact programme in a 500m² (5380ft²) site in a gated community. The husband, a technological-research specialist, longed for different-than-usual housing solutions, and had come into contact with our work through our “Tic-Tac Residence” concept-house (link below), that had been published a few months prior. His wife, on the other hand, wished their home to be more on the conventional side, but also put a lot of value in the relationship between the built-object and the site.

59BTP-House in Singapore by ONG&ONG Pte Ltd

Friday, January 27th, 2017

Article source: ONG&ONG Pte Ltd

This was an Additions and Alterations project on an existing house in Bukit Timah. The owner’s father built the original house and the building was in an awkward position on the plot. According to the brief, the client wanted to have two master bedrooms along with four bedrooms – this required additional floor area as the original house area could not comfortably fit in the extra rooms. However, the architects resolved to make use of the existing structure and maintain its orientation by simply adding an additional volume to accommodate the extra bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms.
