Casa Manzoni Restoration And Museum Design in Milano, Italy by aMDL studio

Sunday, December 25th, 2016

Article source: aMDL studio

Alessandro Manzoni lived in numerous houses, but the only one that can be considered really his is the mansion in Via Morone in Milan, where the writer lived from 1814 up till his death. The building, which had been badly altered in the course of time, has now been restored in such a way as to re-establish the warm and domestic atmosphere in which Manzoni’s literary output was produced.

House Riel Estate completed in 2014 is located in a new residential development in the small village Riel near the town Tilburg. The property conforms with its archetypal main structure and materialization with the rural character of the village and the surrounding countryside; a main building with a gable roof, rural hand-molded bricks and heavy oak doors.

CT HOUSE in Bassano del Grappa, Italy by Studio di Architettura Claude Petarlin

Sunday, December 25th, 2016

Article source: Studio di Architettura Claude Petarlin

This renovation project has involved a detached house integrated in an urban context located in the outskirts of Bassano. It’s a house built on 3 levels with large windows overlooking the garden. The spaces were reorganized and elegant natural materials inspired by the years of construction of the house, were used throughout. The addition of unique pieces of design makes it more contemporary, while maintaining its original identity at the same time. A sole wooden flooring  levels out all the surfaces and the use of soft yet firm tones colours conveys the feeling of a warm atmosphere despite the wide spaces and the white of much of the finish.

Carlisle Street Extension in Adelaide, Australia by SANS-ARC Studio

Sunday, December 25th, 2016

Article source: SANS-ARC

The Carlisle Street extension is a foray into a new-Australian vernacular. Familiar materials and form are used with a higher-consideration to context and passive design, exploring a vernacular for the modern-day. The extension is restrained and simple; a volume of space that is light-filled and expansive yet private.

Carla Ridge Residence in Los Angeles by McClean Design

Sunday, December 25th, 2016

Article source: McClean Design

Located in the Trousdale neighborhood of Beverly Hills where all proposed work must take place without disturbing existing slopes, the challenge for this design is to find ways to create light for the lower level. Here we have created a light well which separates the drive court from the house itself and allows for an entrance across a water feature that cascades over glass to the atrium below. Landscaped with glass on four sides this allows light to the entertainment areas, gym and secondary bedrooms leaving more room upstairs for the rear yard and swimming pool. The upper level contains the master and two additional bedrooms, living room, family, dining and kitchen.

PRÍNCIPE REAL HOUSE in Lisbon, Portugal by BICA Arquitectos

Friday, December 23rd, 2016

Article source: BICA Arquitectos

The building was constructed in the 19th century and expanded in the years of 1950. This apartment, located at the maximum altimetry of one of the Lisbon city’s seven hills, with a panoramic view to the north and south, is part of this expansion, absent of the characteristics that qualified the original construction as palatial.

The House In The Grove in Veneux-les-Sablons, France by ARBA

Thursday, December 22nd, 2016

Article source: ARBA

A private house built in a grove near Fontainebleau. The building is compact and its higher floor levels are incorporated into a wooden roof.

When we first visited the garden in which this house was to be built, we came to the conclusion that the challenge would be one of scale. A high or extended building would have blocked and ruined the full view of this charming orchard. And we had to find the right balance between our intervention (the building’s height and ground impact) and the site proper.

Brick House in Buenos Aires, Argentina by Ventura Virzi Arquitectos

Wednesday, December 21st, 2016

Article source: Ventura Virzi Arquitectos

Kenneth Frampton considers Tectonics not only as a “mere disclosure of the construction technique, but, rather, its expressive potential. Tectonics acquires a truly artistic character to the extent that it amounts to a poetics of construction… The inevitable ground nature of a building has a character so tectonic and tactile as scenic and visual, although none of these attributes denies its spatiality.

Harbor Houses in Aarhus, Denmark by Adept

Wednesday, December 21st, 2016

Article source: Adept

Common greenhouses on the roof tops, adjacent terraces overlooking the bay of Aarhus, and a sheltered green courtyard. This is the essence of the Harbor Houses, a new residential complex in the port of Aarhus, which breaks with both the port’s massive scale, and present iconic building tendencies. The project consists of 262 public dwellings distributed between 83 apartments for families and +55 aged seniors, as well as 179 student-housing units.
