Pasqua House in São Paulo, Brazil by studio mk27

Wednesday, July 4th, 2018

Article source: studio mk27

Pasqua House is a single-family country house.

A leafy boulevard of flamboyant trees (also known as royal poincianas) that seasonally dye one side of the lot with intense red was of great importance to define the architectural design approach. A 27-meter-long hollow brick wall, made of precast concrete panels painted white, delimits this side of the plot and poetically integrates the interior and the exterior. The concrete hollow brick has become the trademark of this project. At the same time it provides privacy without blocking off the landscape, it brings different emotions throughout the day with the different shapes of light and shadows it creates on the floor as the sun changes direction, and the passing of time is clearly marked by the light that enters with different intensities. The hollow brick wall also creates a subtle relationship between the lot and the street, allowing the users to enjoy the external spaces either from the living room or the internal patio.

Article source: AToT – Arquitectos Todo Terreno

The search for design spaces that characterize the residence is marked in the belief of time as a design pattern, which takes different logical structures depending on their specific characteristics in relation to what surrounds them. In this sense, the PRO.CRE.AR House adopts as premise two instances: the first in relation to social structures and the second in relation to technology and costs.

Residence in Parnassus, Greece by Tsolakis Architects

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2018

Article source: Tsolakis Architects

At the foot of Mt. Parnassus, a paternal residence revives decades of history. Stone-built, dark and mysterious, it restores experiences and memories.

This building featured some kind of state monopoly, in the form that the latter used to have in Greece four decades ago. Dozens of traders would arrive there on a daily basis to purchase alcohol, matches, oil, cardboard, and salt.

Article source: v2com

The residence is located at the heart of the Ciutat Vella district just metres away from the former Born market, in one of Barcelona’s most fashionable neighbourhoods.

From the beginning, one of the most interesting propositions was the client’s focus on what her home should be like: an open free-flowing space.

Gauthier House in Mont-Tremblant, Canada by Atelier Barda architecture

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2018

Article source: v2com

“La Maison Gauthier” (the Gauthier House) is located in the Laurentians, in Quebec, near the town of Mont-Tremblant. It is set in a hilly terrain and is surrounded by a dense expanse of forest characteristic of this mountainous region.

The lot is located on a rocky hill covered with spruce and birch. It is bounded to the east by the main road and to the west by the owners’ horse farm. The clients wanted a volume with views largely oriented towards the horses’ riding arena below. At the same time, they wanted to take advantage of the intimacy created by the topography of the lot.

Monday, July 2nd, 2018

Article source: ANX / Aaron Neubert Architects, Inc.

A slightly descending hillside parcel in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles serves as the location for this single family residence. In addition to the site’s gentle topography near the highland of the surrounding hills, the opportunity to capture commanding views of Downtown Los Angeles, the Hollywood sign, and the Griffith Observatory influenced the position and orientation of the home.

Brunswick West House is a small-scale, 50-square-metre alteration and addition to a Californian Bungalow home. The addition forms a low-volume, compact intervention on the project’s site, that aims to re-engage the home with the generous north-facing garden beyond.

The modest nature of the project called for simple, incisive moves that would sidestep the need for an arduous and costly re-configuration of the existing home. In turn, our strategy looked to repurpose an ivy-lined sideway, creating a new, central entry for the home. This approach enables the home to operate succinctly in two halves: the original rooms now accommodate more private activities, while the addition forms its new social heart. These new living spaces are arranged in and around three sculptural masonry walls, creating nooks and reveals within the open plan – spaces that could offer a place to sit and share with family, or retreat within at other times.

Tomi House is located in Niigata Prefecture’s Yuzawa, a town notable for its particularly heavy snowfall. Our first introduction to the site was in January of 2015. By the side of a neatly cleared road rose a mountain of snow four meters or so high.

“This is it” we were told.
