Tuesday, July 3rd, 2018

Article source: v2com

The residence is located at the heart of the Ciutat Vella district just metres away from the former Born market, in one of Barcelona’s most fashionable neighbourhoods.

From the beginning, one of the most interesting propositions was the client’s focus on what her home should be like: an open free-flowing space.

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2018

Article source: v2com

“La Maison Gauthier” (the Gauthier House) is located in the Laurentians, in Quebec, near the town of Mont-Tremblant. It is set in a hilly terrain and is surrounded by a dense expanse of forest characteristic of this mountainous region.

The lot is located on a rocky hill covered with spruce and birch. It is bounded to the east by the main road and to the west by the owners’ horse farm. The clients wanted a volume with views largely oriented towards the horses’ riding arena below. At the same time, they wanted to take advantage of the intimacy created by the topography of the lot.

A slightly descending hillside parcel in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles serves as the location for this single family residence. In addition to the site’s gentle topography near the highland of the surrounding hills, the opportunity to capture commanding views of Downtown Los Angeles, the Hollywood sign, and the Griffith Observatory influenced the position and orientation of the home.

Brunswick West House in Australia by TAYLOR KNIGHTS ARCHITECTURE & INTERIOR DESIGN

Monday, July 2nd, 2018

Article source:  TAYLOR KNIGHTS ARCHITECTURE & INTERIOR DESIGN

Brunswick West House is a small-scale, 50-square-metre alteration and addition to a Californian Bungalow home. The addition forms a low-volume, compact intervention on the project’s site, that aims to re-engage the home with the generous north-facing garden beyond.

The modest nature of the project called for simple, incisive moves that would sidestep the need for an arduous and costly re-configuration of the existing home. In turn, our strategy looked to repurpose an ivy-lined sideway, creating a new, central entry for the home. This approach enables the home to operate succinctly in two halves: the original rooms now accommodate more private activities, while the addition forms its new social heart. These new living spaces are arranged in and around three sculptural masonry walls, creating nooks and reveals within the open plan – spaces that could offer a place to sit and share with family, or retreat within at other times.

The Omagoieaskoa House in Kortezubi, Spain by BAT – Bilbao Architecture Team

Sunday, July 1st, 2018

Article source: BAT – Bilbao Architecture Team

The Omagoieaskoa House (officially Goizko House) is located in the heart of the Oma Valley, inside the Urdaibai Biosphere (Busturialdea, Spain). The house, wich is a 150-year-old farmhouse listed as a historical heritage building of Urdaibai, is mainly formed by stone walls and oak wood structural elements. These type of farmhouses (known in the local culture as Baserris) are the typical Basque countryside buildings. Due to their historical value, the Baserris have become one of the main symbols of the local culture. These farmhouses were inhabited by large humble families (up to 8-12 people) that lived from livestock and agriculture. Nowadays lots of Baserris are a tourist attraction and their owners have made refurbishments to adapt them to the contemporary comfort standars.

Corrugated-Sheet House in Aisai, Japan by DYA (Daisuke Yamashita Architects)

Sunday, July 1st, 2018

Article source: DYA (Daisuke Yamashita Architects)

This residence is for five families of a couple and three children in Aisai City of western Aichi Prefecture. It was built within a corner of a large site adjacent to a plot of the main house. Since urbanization in this area is controlled, the surrounding plots were by consequence largely empty; because the environment lacked a clear context, the resultant building was designed as an extremely simple geometric shape.
