In living room, light blue wall sets the tone and matches with ivory white sofa, giving a refreshing feeling of pleasure while reaching color balance with purple carpet and red chair. Dining room is connected to the living room, where large floor-to-ceiling windows run through and introduce sufficient natural light in. Kirkwood House in London, England by Jailmake Ltd

Thursday, September 21st, 2017

Article source: Jailmake Ltd

When taking on this poorly planned out and ill functioning mid-terrace house, the solution was to turn the whole layout around.

The most dramatic change is the ground floor extension, creating a full width kitchen and dining room, with broad folding doors that lead straight out to a kitchen garden — but the impact is felt throughout the house. The flow has been redirected, drawing you straight through to the light filled living and dining space — but also allowing you to arrive, store you bike, hang your coat and put away your bag, in the ply-clad utility room. Filled floor to ceiling with rearrangeable shelving and integrated laundry rack, the room provides a dedicated space for the more day-to-day functions of a city home.

House and studio for an artist in Santiago, Chile by Planmaestro Arquitectos

Thursday, September 21st, 2017

Article source: Planmaestro Arquitectos

The requirement was a building that would accommodate an artist’s studio and residential space for occasional use as a weekend house. The 1.500 sqm site is located in Peñalolén, a suburban district with low construction density, and neighbors some undeveloped sites. This condition leaves the building very exposed to its surroundings, so the client required that the project would limit the exposure of the interior spaces and provide privacy. The project also had to be capable of becoming an exclusively residential building at a future time, so it needed spaces to allow new uses and an extension to be planned.

Ma mama, A qui li rifrega Delacroix?! (But mum, who cares about Delacroix?!)

That was the question thrown by a child to his mum while I was waiting on a huge line for the Louvre Museum, in Paris. It made me smile until I realized that the child’s premise was full of truth, it kept a reality that we forget so often.

Rua Maria Loft in Lisbon, Portugal by KEMA studio

Article source: KEMA studio

Project is located in Anjos, Lisbon, Portugal, a zone where the industry mixes with housing buildings in a very dense urban tissue.

The pre-existing space had a function of carpentry, with a limited access to light and a small, lacking identity exterior space.

We decided to maintain as much as possible in the interior, except for the part of a back facade to let more natural daylight in and enforce the relation between interior-exterior.

The brief required a rectangular floor plan, whilst the creation of partition walls not to celling height and small separations between elements achieved captivating interior spaces that detract from the simple form.

The whole of the North façade and part of the West are glazed so that the entire view is accessible from the living area, dining and kitchen.

Fluid House in Taipei, Taiwan by CJ STUDIO

Tuesday, September 19th, 2017

Article source: CJ STUDIO

A city, from a multinational corporation’s perspective, is a local node to which its different components are distributed. Together with other cities where other parts are spread over, the corporation functions as a whole within the global network, thus it is inevitable for a multination business proprietor to fly between nodes to keep the company on track. The client of this project happens to be one of this sort, which brings up an issue of what a house could be like when its owner does not actually live there but just periodically visiting. The loose linkage allows the house divert from the conventional path and requires a new identity. As it only has to function occasionally, the house is more like a private deluxe hotel suite rather than a real home but is required to act like a real one when it performs. Besides the basic provision of living, it is crucial that there are certain flexible designs for diverse programs like relaxed socializing, entertainment and work.
