14 UNITS OF SOCIAL HOUSING AND MOTHER AND CHILD WELFARE CENTER (PMI)-SIEMP in Paris, France by inSpace architecture

Sunday, January 24th, 2016

Article source: inSpace architecture

The project at 73 boulevard de la Villette in the 10th arrondissement of Paris comprises 14 units of social housing for the SIEMP and a Mother and Child Welfare Center (Protection Maternelleet Infantile, or PMI) for the Department of Families and Infants (DFPE) of the city of Paris. The integration of the project into the lot demonstrates the intention to set up a building that assimilates the composition with the context, its morphologies and urban specificities, and thus designed as an element that reflects its environment. The building expresses two distinct aspects of reality: Life on the boulevard, and life in the heart of the city block. This duality is developed at various levels of the building’s conception.

Floating house in Ogasa, JAPAN by Shuhei Goto Architects

Sunday, January 24th, 2016

Article source: Shuhei Goto Architects

A concept of this house is a “new openness” in densely built-up residential areas. The site is surrounded by the houses of neighbors, so the main theme of design is to form “a space excellent in privacy” and “an open space with brightness”.A 360 degree opening has been realized by using a steel frame between the wooden first and second floor. A living room is surrounded by the sky on every side, and a resident doesn’t have to care about neighbors. This house can bring him/her a bright and healthful life.

Implanted on a large agricultural estate, the house is built in the middle of the property’s vineyard on an almost flat terrain adjacent to a cork oak forest.

The calm and serenity of the surroundings welcomes the one storey building which tries to interfere as little as possible with the landscape by aligning alongside the natural elements that compose the peaceful backdrop.

Slice of the City in Hyogo, Japan by ALPHAVILLE Architects Co.Ltd

Friday, January 22nd, 2016

Article source: ALPHAVILLE Architects Co.Ltd

Nishinomiya is a city located between Osaka and Kobe. The site is situated in a residential neighborhood with typical block layout. According to the local construction policy, there needs to be a fifty-centimeter setback from the site boundary, which allows a one-meter narrow gap between the houses. Normally, each household will have the windows facing the public roads with the curtains shut to keep its privacy. Therefore, openings as such are not providing the occupants with much light, ventilation or views.

The Retreat House by Jantzen studio

Friday, January 22nd, 2016

Article source: jantzen studio

The Retreat House was designed as a special functional art place in which to escape from the norm. It was made from a series of prefabricated, modular, components that can be assembled together in many different ways in order to form many different sizes and shaped structures. The basic module consists of a half floor, wall, and roof section that can be used as it is, and/or connected together with another to form a complete floor, walls, and roof profile.

Rock house in Gyeonggi, South Korea by B.U.S Architecture

Article source: B.U.S Architecture

#1. Revealed Rock

As the demand of rural housing grows, more and more people are developing and moving to spectacular mountainous areas. The site on which the rock house was located is also one of the rural housing sites developed in this way. Particularly, the greatest advantage of developing a mountainous area into a building site is ensuring the open view based on the high level as well as the right to the southern light with no interference. In addition, the rock house has a unique site specific: the naturally stony land, excavation of which thus has revealed a great rock on the site. The unrealistic rock we encountered when visiting the site has been located at the mouth of entering the house, so exquisitely hiding the neighboring house and opening the view toward the Northern Han River. From this time on, we have referred to this house as the rock house.

YS114 House in Taipei, Taiwan by Preposition Architecture

Thursday, January 21st, 2016

Article source: Preposition Architecture

This single family house is located in a gated community on a hill near Taipei. Ever since the beginning of the design, a portion of the land property right was not clearly defined (the issue had been resolved later) hence the structure is limited to be in the North-West of the site. The result is that only 98 sqm of the land is permitted to be developed on this 280 sqm site and the building has to grow vertically with each interior floor area varies from 46 sqm to 76 sqm only (including stair case & elevator shaft).
