PABELLÓN 3E in Mérida, México by TACO taller de arquitectura contextual

Wednesday, November 18th, 2015

Article source: TACO taller de arquitectura contextual

Pabellón 3E is the result of an architectural intervention of a satellite edification construction of 140 square meters, located inside a residential home from the sixties in one of the first neighborhoods outside of the historic downtown area in the city of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico; such satellite edification, 40 years ago, was part of the neighbor’s property, and the owners acquired it in order to modify it as bedrooms for their large family. Over the years, these rooms became guest-rooms, and given the advanced age of the owners, their difficulty managing stairs and lack of ground floor rooms in the main house, the decision to modify the development was taken in order to create optimal conditions for habitability with minimal financial resources, there for the project does not handle extensions and is strictly defined by the preexisting ones.

OVD 919 – NEW HOUSE in Cape Town, South Africa by SAOTA

Tuesday, November 17th, 2015

Article source: SAOTA

The Brief was to create a spectacular home which encapsulated the expansive 360 degree mountain and sea views.  Though views out were paramount this needed to be carefully balanced with the required privacy from within.  The living areas were to be open plan – enhancing everyday life.  “The architecture needed focus on creating a contemporary, uncluttered and sculptural building,” said Tamaryn Fourie, senior associate and project team member.

The site is excellently positioned on the mountain ridge below Lions Head with views of Robben Island to the North and Camps Bay and the Twelve Apostles to the South.

ONE FAMILY HOUSE IN Cádiz, Spain by alzugaray estudio de arquitectura

Sunday, November 15th, 2015

Article source: alzugaray estudio de arquitectura

The house is situated on the occidental edge of the natural park of the Estrecho, on an abrupt hillside, where the landscape value, its orientation and complicated topography are determining factors. Instead of viewing these factors as potential limits we considered them to be incentives for a better solution for the project, helping reinforce the intrinsic singularity of the emplacement, to which service is set this construction.

Kite Roof House in Singapore by AAMER ARCHITECTS

Sunday, November 15th, 2015

Article source: AAMER ARCHITECTS

One of the main design challenges for this house was the rather tight triangular site with a narrow entrance from the street. Aamer’s design addressed these site limitations by turning them into opportunities. The house is arranged in an L-shaped configuration, with all the spaces oriented towards a triangular plot of private garden hidden from the street. At the street front, Aamer introduced a continuous mono-pitch roof from the attic to the car porch.

Hill House in Winthrop, Washington by David Coleman Architecture

Saturday, November 14th, 2015

Article source: David Coleman Architecture

This is a modest, sustainable building with a big presence in a big landscape.

The Hill House sits on a long, narrow, rocky ridge line, sloping gently to the south and steeply to the east and west. Site conditions dictated a long, narrow structure, and client expectations suggested a building deeply rooted in the landscape. The resulting project is conceived as a habitable landscape, a place to gather, shelter and rest, closely aligned with the rugged beauty of the site and responsive to the natural conditions.
