Tea house ‘Tuin van Noord’

Tea house ‘Tuin van Noord’ is a small scale, low-budget project initiated by local residents. It functions as a community gathering place located in a local park in Leiden (NL), a historic city in the Netherlands.  The tea house accommodates a seating area, a kitchen, a space from where outdoor games can be borrowed and a multifunctional space intended both for temporary exhibitions of local objects – a so-called neighbourhood museum – and meetings.

House 2B in Skopje, Macedonia by BetimZeqiri + BekirAdemi [BINA]

Thursday, October 15th, 2015

Article source: BetimZeqiri + BekirAdemi

The house is situated near the historic district of the Municipality of Chair in theCity of Skopje, between the Old Bazaar and Skopje’sFortress. It isone of four houses in a row, situated in an intense urban context. The house was built in the 60s of the last century, with modest and clear modernistic appearance. Unfortunately, it was in a devastated condition. The four houses were built all at once, with a common constructive system, which meant that any physical intervention was extremely complicated. However, with carefullyassorted methods, it was possible to reanimate the house without causing any damage for the neighbors.

Article source: ALTS DESIGN OFFICE

Concept

The hope of this client is to live in a house just like a renovated warehouse. The type of houses is diversified into various kinds, and such a house is prevalent on the ground of financial terms. However, there’re problems as regarding heat insulation capacity and construction to convert a warehouse into a house. As a result, it costs the same amount as new construction. Therefore, we built a new house like a renovated warehouse pursuing diversified and productive open spaces.

FENLON HOUSE in Los Angeles, California by Martin Fenlon Architecture

Tuesday, October 13th, 2015

Article source: Martin Fenlon Architecture

In the little-known neighborhood of Hermon, located just outside of downtown Los Angeles, a dilapidated 1920’s bungalow has undergone a major remodel, bringing new life to the old structure. The new addition to the front of the house forms a unique alliance with the remodeled existing house. This new frontispiece appears to be intimately nested within the older existing house, while maintaining a stark differentiation. The frontispiece has been clad in a clear cedar which contrasts the torched cedar that wraps the rest of the structure. The front addition integrates the house with the adjacent streetscape as it terraces down to the sidewalk and forms a long bench.
