Fluid Mirror in Taipei, Taiwan by Waterfrom Design

Thursday, January 11th, 2018

Article source: Waterfrom Design

Incorporating themselves into the pleasing view of a waterfront residence, the undulate waters with ripples therein pass through the semi-circular surrounding windows and become part of the vicissitudes of your daily life. Inspired by the murmuring waters outside the bright neat windows, the interior design extends swells of the rippling breakers and transforms them into attractive curves in walls, ceilings and traffic flow, symbolizing echoes to exterior waves to resemble endless stream currents, take in soft wavy lines and delicate rhythm, and replace rigid and simple squares.

House in Rapel, Chile by 2DM

Tuesday, January 9th, 2018

Article source: 2DM

The commission consists of a summer house to be located in a rural area near Rapel Lake in a region of central Chile. The main characteristic that shapes the condition of the space is the extreme heat in summer times, a time that coincides with the greatest use of the house. In response to this requirement, the house responds with two basic strategies, it’s own shade and ventilation. The house is thought of as a volume based on its own shadow, that is, the volume itself is capable of generating its own shadow through eaves at the ends of the house. A warehouse type volume, which in turn, achieves an appropriate height to move a mass of hot air away and renew it with cross ventilation. It is added to the strategy, to incorporate timber cladding to the roof to shade and microventilate the roof sheet.

Tuesday, January 9th, 2018

Article source: architecten|en|en

Loftwonen is a special form of urban residence. The idea of Loftwonen is based on high rooms and flexible floor plans. Block 61, which was designed by architecten|en|en, is part of an urban composition of three housing blocks that are constructed in a similar manner. The housing blocks are located along the railway as an extension of the well-known Klokgebouw. The three buildings are separated from the railway by means of an oblong parking garage, which parallels the railway embankment.

Hudson Valley Guest House in New York by Janson Goldstein

Tuesday, January 9th, 2018

Article source: Janson Goldstein

The master plan for this four-acre hillside site outside of the Upstate New York town of Hudson includes a new guesthouse and pool adjacent to an existing contemporary home. The 20-foot-by-45-foot pool takes advantage of the property’s Hudson Valley views, while the guesthouse, nearly surrounded by a new meadow, forms an entry court with the main structure. A covered breezeway divides the guesthouse into two sides, one a gym for the homeowners and guests, the other a living-and-sleeping area for guests. The opening acts as a bridge between the sides, allowing for privacy as well as connection to the surrounding landscape. Clad in vertical wooden slats, the structure’s simple construction, including exposed rafters and concrete flooring, features an elegant glass wall that maximizes the building’s transparency and view.

Vivid Color in Taipei, Taiwan by Waterfrom Design

Tuesday, January 9th, 2018

Article source: Waterfrom Design

Vivid Color

Inspired with paper patterns created by fashion designers for garment making to interpret their imagination, this interior design, taking silhouettes from such patterns, starts dialogues with the young residence owner, a French educated female fashion designer. Just as dress drawings, folding and twisting in pattern making are transformed to clean-cut presentation of sharply defined copper tubing of pendant lamps hanging down from ceiling and wires braided on the glass bookcase.

Abstract

An ancient and listed building, heritage of the past, becomes a new home/office, intertwining a dialog between indoor and outdoor, place and space, voids and levels, walls and glasses. The roof with terrace, skylight and pv panels becomes a fifth \”facade\”. Like in a Piranesi’s work you can move in many directions through the space.

In a city split by rail lines, neighborhood transformation through an appreciated “eco-city” must take into account its unique scales and existing qualities :

– the smooth downtown connexion via a footbridge

– the proximity of “La Garenne” woods with their rich arboreal heritage

– an ancient and deeply-rooted gardening culture in urban areas ; and vast open spaces.

Screen House in Singapore by POIESIS ARCHITECTS

Tuesday, January 9th, 2018

Article source: POIESIS ARCHITECTS

The Screen House is located on a triangulated plot of land somewhere in the western part of Singapore.  Prior to the rebuilding, the carparking for the house was located on a steep incline leading up to the 1st storey of the house which is approximately 2.5m higher than the adjacent road level.  In order to take advantage of the topography of the site, the decision was made to “carve” out a basement storey. With this strategy, the carparking area is hidden away.  An entire new basement storey could then be tucked neatly into the site. The new house from road level looks like a 2.5 storey house when in fact it is a 3.5 storey volume.
