The former main building of the Helsinki University of Technology took on a new role when three universities were merged as Aalto University in 2010. The Otaniemi Campus designed by Alvar Aalto was chosen as the shared home of the Aalto Schools of Engineering, Business and Arts & Design.
NAN is the remodel of a 11,450 SF warehouse into an office and production facility for the custom electronic parts manufacturer Arnold Electronics, Inc. The existing, prefabricated warehouse was converted into a high-tech office and manufacturing facility with the intent to create a graphic and architectural identity for the client.
The project VIL is an interior build-out in an existing warehouse for the Los Angeles headquarters of the content and production agency Conscious Minds. A main architectural feature is a continuous surface sheet forming an articulated ceiling and simultaneously folding around two conference spaces. The digital surface manipulation follows in part pragmatic stipulations but also creates a divided two-material sheet that appears to artificially tear at the seams to allow glimpses into the otherwise enclosed conference rooms.
This residence, located in the Peninsula Papagayo luxury resort in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, was penned by its owner to have an “Earthy Contemporary” architectural style. The home was designed in a lot overlooking the sixteenth hole of the Four Seasons Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course. The design was thought to maximize the view to the golf course fairway down below, and to also take advantage of multiple existing trees around the home and give the home an exotic tree house feeling. We used a combination of large glazed surfaces for transparency, exposed steel structure, with wood and natural stone accents, to achieve a modern design with a natural feeling.
The Zopfmatte residential complex aims to help and encourage residents to live independently in their own homes, whilst meeting their needs in every stage of life. The Zopfmatte housing concept demonstrates a forward-looking understanding of living arrangements for the elderly. In Suhr, the political, social and individual independence sought by (very) elderly residents is construed as assisted independence. The necessary occupational and organisational structures have been consistently integrated into the project. An on-site contact team is available to residents on a daily basis. Interfaces to the community are in place. The contact team plays a key role in the Zopfmatte operating concept. It consists of a contact person and a caretaker with additional responsibilities. Together they take care of the service office for the complex. Their main task is to help residents achieve independence, to provide them with information and to offer organisational advice if necessary, for example in their dealings with authorities and official bodies. Administrative operations in Zopfmatte are financed by the tenants and apartment owners by means of a flat-rate solidarity fee. Based on these conditions, \”Ageing in Place\” is achieved.
The parish center had worn out and there have been considerations to renovate it for several years. Finally, the decision was made to address the issue. However, there were some challenges. We preferred to renovate the building rather than to rebuild it as the new building regulations of the diocese would not approve a new auditorium with the size of the old one. Moreover, the assignment of the diocese was not to increase the volume of the building. The building not only hat to be renewed with regards to its technique and insulation but also had to be adapted to today’s needs in terms of its room-sequence, staircase and façade.
An architect’s house is a thing to play with, a bit like life. Perhaps even more so when its an architecture inherited almost unchanged from Alec Bowman’s original 1960 design for a retired couple, and now in dire need of simple things like a kitchen, spaces to fit a family, and a connection to the garden.
ELL is a 5,500SF ground-up Beverly Hills Spec residence designed for Luxe List. The building is located at the crest of the Benedict Canyon hillsides, overlooking the entire serene landscape of the Beverly Hills neighborhood. The project is loosely situated within the footprint of a former, now demolished, one-story 1950s residence.

Houses should evolve along with its user. Ana María and Manuel, our clients, made the decision of spending as much time as possible in their summerhouse in Sant Mori. Located between Figueres and Girona, Sant Mori is a rural village with irregular geometry, which offers a characteristic Mediterranean landscape scenery to its inhabitants, bounded by long fields and forests.

The building is located on the edge of the Papamoa Beach township and our brief was to create a design that captured the nostalgic kiwi bach (holiday house) feel.
