67 Dwellings in Colmenar Viejo, Madrid, Spain by dosmasunoarquitectos

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Article source: dosmasunoarquitectos

Flying across the Madrilenian mountains, we chose a hill to land on. Its slope enabled us to establish a visual relationship with the surroundings, gazing Colmenar Viejo, the mountains and Madrid’s metropolitan area in the horizon.

The local topographic and geologic conditions are preserved and used as the main leit-motivs of the intervention. Its rocky, naturally-pitched substratum suggested hovering on top of it instead of altering its original features.

USB Houses in Milano, Italy by Francesco Fiotti

Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

Article source: Francesco Fiotti

The project relates to the site simultaneously on three levels: the current context – the P.I.I. “Cascina Merlata” – the potential development area.

Our proposal creates a connection between the ‘fast system’ of via Gallarate and the ‘slow system’ of the park, an idea of continuous and fluid urban space that may extend far beyond the simple boundary of the area. The buildings are arranged parallel to the director of Cascina Merlata, not only to respect its visual scope, but also to ensure the higher permeability to those coming from via Gallarate. The residential units are separated from the ground, bridge building resting on the access units to private residences. The idea is to return the soil to the ‘pawn’.

Boréal in France by Tetrarc Architectes

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

Article source: Tetrarc Architectes

Tétrarc has created 39 social housing shapes as 11 “Houses” gathered side by side. The resultant continuous volume describes a light 21 degrees inflexion on its half, creating two distinct households. As the first one contains 6 rental houses, the second one is dedicated to the 5 sold houses. In order to optimize the space for living rooms without increasing reference surface areas each housing is organized around a nucleus made of a kitchen, a bathroom, toilets, and a staircase for duplex apartments. In the same purpose, accesses to the housings are located outside the building as an unexpected & playful iconic element.

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

Article source: Studio Twenty Seven Architecture

Studio Twenty Seven Architecture, along with joint venture partner Leo A. Daly, is developing a design for the District-owned “La Casa” supportive housing project. The project is an important milestone for the District in its efforts to redefine the concept of housing for the homeless community. Rather than function as a shelter, the “La Casa” project will provide permanent, supportive housing for forty men. Each living unit is designed as a single-person efficiency that will provide stability and predictability for the tenants as they immerse themselves in day to day living.

Savonnerie Heymans Par in Brussels,Belgium by MDW Architecture

Article source: MDW Architecture

The Savonnerie Heymans complex won the MIPIM Award 2011 in the Residential developments category.

Brussels, March 16, 2012 – On the 6,500m² site of a former soap factory less than half a mile from the Grand’Place, the social housing project creates a real “village” of 42 sustainable accommodations of different types including studios, 1 to 6-bedroom apartments, lofts, duplexes and Maisonettes. Although a 100% public housing scheme, thanks to the diversity of its program the Savonnerie Heymans provides a variety of spaces echoing the diversity of the people living in the very heart of Brussels. Glass-enclosed bio-climatic loggias characterize the entire complex, providing an effective acoustical and thermal barrier but also providing a sense of privacy.

Arlevagen in Floda, Gothenburg by Helhetshus

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

Article source: Helhetshus

This project is Helhetshus´s first own developed, housing project. The goal was to build 8 houses that felt exclusive regarding architecture and design, yet affordable. The site is located in Floda, 25 kilometers northeast of Gothenburg, Sweden. It´s a clearing on a hillside with large oak trees and a beautiful view of lake Sävelången. By using the existing conditions of the site and placing the houses halfway over the edge of the hillside; each house got a nice view towards the lake and at the same time it created more space on the sunny side of the plot towards southwest. The boomerang-shaped building leaves an open space towards the street and a more secluded garden space south of the building witch is maximised by placing the buildings as far north as possible on each plot.

30 Houses in Rotterdam, The Netherlands by BBVH Architects

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Article source: BBVH Architects

Dutch architects of BBVH were looking for a solution to give future buyers of their serial housing projects more influence on the layout and size of their homes. BBVH does not want to design homes for the average families of 2,31 person, we want to design homes that fit. Having seen one too many floor plans with the same layout, too small to fit a big family, too big for couples without kids we thought of a different solution.

A castle where the boys and girls of the story of Michael Ende could be entering. It is a triangular building configured by the square elements!

The site is a manufacturing area in Youkaichi City in Shiga Prefecture.  There are many big factories in this town. A lot of immigrants from South America live here among the local people.
