The Line Sukhumvit 101 in Thailand by Openbox Architects co.,ltd

Monday, April 23rd, 2018

Article source: Openbox Architects co.,ltd

– Architectural design

“The Line 101” has been created based on the key idea, “Living between the Line”. The expression, like in literature, refers to hidden, deeper meaning, beyond words, or visual appearances. Inspired by Davenport’s famous, modern painting, “The Waterfall”. The demographic group of residences, young, free, active and successful, are perceived as vertical stripes of colors, expressing themselves so lively, vividly and uniquely, to create a unique, dynamic work of art on the skyline of Sukhumvit.

Superlofts in Amsterdam, Netherlands by MARC KOEHLER ARCHITECTS

Tuesday, April 17th, 2018

Article source: v2com

Tapping into the open building movement, Superlofts offers its residents the freedom to design and/or self-build their homes from scratch incorporating any hybrid function, and co-create the shared spaces as a community.

Resilient buildings can adapt and evolve to a city’s ever-changing programmes and the lifestyles of its inhabitants. Unfortunately as older building stock becomes obsolete this results in wasted empty or under-utilised space. In the Netherlands, the estimated total building vacancy is five times the number of new buildings constructed annually.

Gaîté Montparnasse in Paris, France by MVRDV

Monday, April 9th, 2018

Article source: MVRDV

Situated in close vicinity to Tour Montparnasse, the Vandamme mixed-use block, designed in the early 1970s by the French architect Pierre Dufau, was as one of the largest urban projects implemented in Paris at the time. As a design driven to prioritise automobile use, it appeared as a triangular urban island surrounded by the traffic loaded Rue Mouchotte, Avenue du Maine, Rue Vercingétorix and the rail tracks of Gare Montparnasse opposite the site. Dufau’s design is characterized by a clearly defined horizontal plinth, interrupted only by the verticality of the slender, 30-storey tower of the Hotel Pullman. Once a landmark of the era, over time the complex has failed to adapt to the changing needs of an urban society, resulting in an introverted and self-contained block which lacks urban connectivity, discourages pedestrian activity and neglects any sense of identity.

104 Social Housing and Home Ownership in Ivry-sur-Seine, France by aEa, agence Engasser+associés

Sunday, April 1st, 2018

Article source: v2com

Located on a plot of land in Ivry-sur-Seine and close to the river, this 104-unit project had to adapt to the physical constraints of its environment while enhancing the brief with added value. Composed of three apartment buildings, two of which are for private ownership and the third for social housing, the buildings stand in a verdant environment with a landscaped inner garden, visual openings onto the Seine and roof terraces enhanced by flower- and kitchen-gardens open to everyone.

Arranged in a staggered design, the three buildings are broken down into varying volumes, materials and tones so as to create variations of scale and embellish them with slimmer lines.

A dense, urban project that the agency has transformed with panache into a habitat favourable to encounters and conviviality in a bucolic setting.

Minimalist Opulence in Dubai, United Arab Emirates by EDGE

Sunday, April 1st, 2018

Article source: v2com

Located less than 150 metres from the beach at the prestigious Jumeirah Beach Residence in Dubai, the flagship project sets a new standard for luxury in the Persian Gulf region. The design principles behind the building are guided by two main goals: waterfront views and spatial clarity.

The waterfront views are special because they will be visible from every room in every unit. Residents will look out over Dubai’s iconic landmarks, including Skydive Dubai, Palm Island, Blue Waters Island and Ain Dubai. This guiding principle gives added value to the land and maximizes revenue for the developer.

Irene Popard in Clermont-Ferrand, France by AGENCE BERNARD BÜHLER

Sunday, April 1st, 2018

Article source: AGENCE BERNARD BÜHLER

The Residence Irene Popard, to Clermont-Ferrand (France), counts 89 units including 29 in social accession and 60 social rental housings. The green corridor is the spine of the project which take its source between the buildings of the neighboring plot. The idea is that the various buildings meander, sneaks in a duality between distance and rapprochement with other buildings facing each other. Hence this zigzag movement.
