Daegu Gosan Library in Daegu, South Korea by Gorka Blas Revilla

Tuesday, November 20th, 2012

Article source: Gorka Blas Revilla

This proposal conceives the library as a cultural and social space for the local community. For this purpose the project focuses in obtaining a functional, attractive and comfortable facility that constitutes an essential element for neighborhood´s everyday life.  In order to achieve this objective, the project translates the scale of the domestic space to a public facility, without lack of its public dimension.

Ballyroan Parish Centre in Dublin, Ireland by Box Architecture

Friday, November 2nd, 2012

Article source: Box Architecture

The client, South Dublin County Council, approached our office to refurbish and extend the existing library of Marian Road in Ballyroan, Rathfarnham in 2006. The brief expanded and, as part of the project, we were asked to look at refurbishing the existing community centre, which was in need of upgrading to modern space and environmental standards. It became quite evident early on that the extent of area required for the pastoral element was too large and a separate building was required.

Design Concept

The advanced technology of reading materials by computer, Kindle and even cell‐phone devices helps people easily access to information even way much more than what library could provide in last decades. Cairo National Library in Egypt by Seeding Office

Tuesday, October 9th, 2012

Article source: Seeding Office

Traditionally, Egypt was known as the gift of the Nile, ever since Herodotus simply stated that “without the Nile, there is no Egypt, because where the Nile overflows its banks, the land is green, and where the water’s influence stops, the desert begins. Egypt is the Gift of the Nile, the only place in the world where a river dares to cut across a thousand miles of desert to reach the sea, creating a civilization along its course”.

We have chosen Water as a symbolic guide for the whole project, aiming to evoke the deepest roots of Egyptian culture and imagine the building itself as an element generated by the river’s life.

Jiaxing University Library & Media Center in China by LYCS Architecture

Saturday, September 22nd, 2012

Article source: LYCS Architecture

With the new winning competition entry for the Jiaxing University Library & Media Center, LYCS seeks to break antiquated design conventions by intelligently negotiating contemporary architectural design into the traditional Chinese campus. Surrounded by rich woods and luscious water, the 42000m2 library plays with hierarchy – the hierarchy of multiple, increasingly private spaces; the hierarchy of the pace of spatial experience; and the hierarchy of introversion and extroversion.

Design Proposal Ljubljana Library in Ljubljana, Slovenia by BARCODE Architects

Friday, August 10th, 2012

Article source: BARCODE Architects

Prominently sited at a junction in the heart of perhaps the most important academic centre in Eastern Europe, the 20.000m2 NUK II building seeks to become a compelling architectural landmark. Although the given plot was of great complexity, the proposal of BARCODE Architects presents a clever and pure univocal shape. By making the design compact and by moving volume from its base to the top, the building makes way and shows the characteristic ruins of Roman Emona on site, while at the same time this creates a public square along the important city junction. The cantilevers created are aligned with the adjacent blocks to generate a uniform street view and a well-balanced town scape.
