Rajaswa Bhawan in New Delhi, India by VYOM

Thursday, May 16th, 2019

Article source: VYOM

As India’s financial headquarters, the Rajaswa Bhawan, or the National Tax Headquarters proposed at Kasturba Gandhi Marg in the heart of the capital New Delhi, represents the morals affiliated with the country’s economic aspirations.

With its history dating back to more than a thousand years, Delhi has been witnessing a continuous change in its architectural identity, owing to the shift in the central administrative power. The amalgamation of the two predominant styles seen across the city, forms the basis for Indo Saracenic architecture. Used extensively by the British, this revival style defines public and government buildings, including palaces of the princely states built during the nineteenth century. With the site located in the vicinity of buildings such as Rasthrapati Bhawan, Hyderabad House and the Jaipur column, the design of the Rajaswa Bhawan has been directly influenced by Indo-Saracenic architecture.

Glasir – Tórshavn College in Faroe Islands by BIG-BJARKE INGELS GROUP

Monday, May 13th, 2019

Article source: BIG-BJARKE INGELS GROUP

Located on the undulating fjords of Faroe Islands, with views to the capital Tórshavn, the sea and verdant fells, Glasir seeks to harvest the efficiencies of combining Faroe Islands Gymnasium, Tórshavn Technical College and the Business College of Faroe Islands into one building for over 1,750 students, teachers and staff.

Glasir retains the autonomy and individual identity for each of the three schools while creating ideal conditions for collaboration and learning to flourish — an incubator for innovation rather than a traditional school setting. Shaped by the internal needs of the students and teachers, Glasir is conceived as a stack of five individual levels that wrap around a central courtyard: one for each of the three institutions, one for food and faculty, and one for physical exercise and gatherings. The building is organized like a vortex, with each level opening up and the top levels radiating 30m / 100ft out towards the mountainous landscape.

Article source: Snøhetta

The new Opera House is an important part of a new urban c for Shanghai that aims to place the city at the forefront of the globe, economically, scientifically, and culturally. The Opera House is expected to become one of the major cultural landmarks of Shanghai – the country’s 13th Five-Year Plan names it as the most important initiative to strengthen Shanghai’s cultural and global influence.

“The Shanghai Grand Opera House is a natural progression of our previous work with designing performing arts centers,” says Snøhetta Founder Kjetil Trædal Thorsen. “It is a culmination of the competence and insight gained through projects such as the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, the Busan Opera House in South Korea, the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts in Canada, and the Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers renovation in Paris. The Shanghai Grand Opera House is a product of our contextual understanding and values, designed to promote public ownership of the building for the people of Shanghai and beyond”.

Wuhan Huashan Library in China by GLA

Wednesday, April 24th, 2019

Article source: GLA

The library, lying at the northwest corner of Wuhan Huashan Eco-City, where there originally was a wetland with abundant resources, connects to the city's sports theme park in the east and faces closely to the Baiyang Mountain Scenic Area in the north. The design, featuring five well-proportioned, lightweight and simplified boxes scattered on the wetland, expresses a concealing and humble posture into the current ecological environment and leaves the original ecologic landscape intact as much as possible.

From east to west there are five boxes of different sizes that contain unique functions and have various facade expressions. Driving along the road and sequentially passing through the five boxes unfolding horizontally, one can see that the boxes on both sides, made of glass curtain walls with backing roller blinds as main facade materials, protrude gradually toward the center, in which an exhibition center with a complete air-driven aluminum-sheet curtain wall is presented as the climax of the series, emitting a flexible and elusive gorgeousness.
