Flag Decomposition Recomposition in Osaka Prefecture, Japan by KTX archiLAB

Tuesday, April 25th, 2017

Article source: KTX archiLAB

This design is a trial to work on one of the Japanese identity symbols. The Japanese flag was dismantled then reconstructed into a 3 dimensional space. It was arranged in a way that the ratio between the white and the red areas respects the same ratio in the national flag. Furthermore, due to the very low ceiling, clear mirrors were installed in slit shapes to ensure an extended visibility over its 2230mm height.

Two West KC & Two West LA in Kansas City by KEM STUDIO

Tuesday, April 25th, 2017

Article source: KEM STUDIO

The Two West space was as much about the design of the branding + communications company’s culture as it was the design of the space. Unexpected interaction with communal lounge and café spaces, oversized doors and large expanses of uninterrupted glazing make the company process visible to employees and client, increase collaborative work space and define the company culture through the design of the space. In the end, the space and architectural elements reinforce the companies brand and facilitates how they want their employees to work.

Design Center for Xinhee Group in Fujian, China by MAD Architects

Sunday, April 23rd, 2017

Article source: MAD Architects

Located in the Chinese coastal city of Xiamen, MAD Architects’ design for the Xinhee Design Center is currently under construction. The design center is for the international fashion group, Xinhee, and its six subsidiary brands. It has a site area of 15,000 square meters with building area of 61,000 square meters. “We envision it as a building with skin-and-bones,” reveals MAD founding principal Ma Yansong, “the correspondence of clothing and architecture is they both explore the relationship between the interior and the exterior.”
Xinhee Design Center has the central atrium space at its core; from there, six long spanning structures extend out to different directions, and become a star-shaped layout which formalizes a solid “bone” structure frame. A mix of office spaces and green gardens compose each of the organically-formed arms. A translucent and sun-shading envelope of PTFE hangs slightly off the vertical garden, and provides ventilation during the hot season. At the same time, it lightens the building to be elegant and floating, just likes a piece of delicate thin, soft, skin covering the “bone” structure of the building body. Ma Yansong elaborates, “It’s interesting for a building with such an intrinsically logical structure to look floating and free.”

The main aspects of this design project were to keep the look simple and casual, with a modern and high class touch and with emphasis on the reception desk.

CHALLENGE

Masader Arabian decided to open a branch in Egypt and therefore purchased a floor of an apartment building. The Project Director, Mohammed Moktader was looking for an architectural company that would remodel and convert the apartment into an office. The two room apartment would have to be converted to an office with a reception, exhibition and waiting room, General Manager’s room, meeting room and rooms for the employees. The client was looking for a modern yet subtle look.

COOOP3 in Tokyo, Japan by Domino Architects

Thursday, April 20th, 2017

Article source: Domino Architects

We designed a new office space for a creative agency in Tokyo applying mixture of technology and traditional Japanese wood works for structure, furniture and fixtures. To keep the flexibility of the space, we suggested a portable partition system to insert on the floor and create proper size of the area.

The floor includes lab space intended for long-term project and war room intended for many projects to have short, intensive period of discussions. Each space is divided by glass partitions so that each active project can feel each other and is visible at a glance.

Office building for Dutch financial services group ACHMEA Leiden in The Netherlands by VVKH Architecten

Thursday, April 20th, 2017

Article source: VVKH Architecten

Achmea’s office building marks the entrance to Leiden town centre. Five grand natural stone stairwells and a colourful façade shape the face directed towards this country’s busiest railway line. The road runs under the building on the town side. Here, the twelve tree columns shape a unique avenue leading towards Leiden city centre. The buildings’ use of colour refers to the painting ’rhythm of a Russian dance´ of the artist Theo van Doesburg. In 1917 he founded the Dutch famous artistic movement ’The Stijl’  in this town.
