Engineers Pop with Colour in Brisbane, Australia by Studio 15b – Architecture + Interior Design

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2016

Article source: Studio 15b – Architecture + Interior Design

Inspired by an enthusiastic client passionate about colour, Inertia Engineering’s office fit-out is bright and on-trend.  Copper accents provide warmth to the corporate white-blue colours that were derived from the company logo.  The reception area is flanked by a curved concrete rendered wall that leads you into the custom designed meeting room and further into the spacious open plan office.  The curve of the meeting room softens the harsh angles prominent in the space while encouraging a ‘round table’ approach to meetings.  Much thought went into the spatial planning of this existing office space in order to compliment the team work flow while providing a generous and practical break out space for employees.  A whole wall was dedicated to storage for stationery, archiving and servers which is cleverly disguised by graphical sliding doors with a centrally located functional utility space.  The breakout space is framed by timber screening and houses a functional kitchen that provides plenty of storage for individuals and a high bar for informal gatherings.  Comfortable upholstered occasional ottomans are scattered in the corner while outdoor ottomans encourage use of the long balcony.  Combining the client’s daring attitude to colour with our expertise ensured a successful outcome that will encourage productivity in this functional and bright work place.

Article source: IFUB *

2007 four friends from Bavaria (southern german state), sat together in germanys capital city Berlin. They decided to do something against their notorious shortage of fellow players in “Schafkopf“, a card game only popular in Bavaria. The simple solution was the website www.sauspiel.de that soon became extremely popular. Seven years later the team had already grown to 14 people, meaning that the old office was not big enough any more.

Bibliothèque Alexis de Tocqueville in Caen, France by OMA

Saturday, November 19th, 2016

Article source: OMA

Bibliothèque Alexis de Tocqueville is a public library for the metropolitan region Caen la Mer in Normandy, France. The 12,000 m2 multimedia library is located at the tip of the peninsula that extends out from the city of Caen to the English Channel. Its key position – between the city’s historic core and an area of Caen that is being developed – supports the city’s ambition for the library to become a new civic center. The library’s glass facade visually connects the adjacent park, pedestrian pathway and waterfront plaza to the interior and together with two large ground floor entrances at both sides of the building, enables a fluid interaction of the library with its surroundings. On the upper floors, the urban belvedere provides unobstructed views in all four directions.

The logistic office and warehouse were set among the mountains of Ruifang, on the outskirts of New Taipei City. The reconfigured space introduces a new approach to logistic offices as opposed to the stereotypical warehouse workplace. The design embodies a casual, warm and playful environment that reflects the belief in each individual’s ability to show initiative.

Albini Offices in Cluj-Napoca, Romania by Dico si Tiganas architecture and engineering

Sunday, November 13th, 2016

Article source: Dico si Tiganas architecture and engineering

At the junction of two streets and two neighborhoods, one of houses between and after the war, and the other of houses of the 60s, a family of lawyers wished for an office of their own. A new building was meant to rise instead of a small and old family house that would have kept all memories only by its simple existence. However, beyond the intimate memory, the young lawyers have expressed their desire to build a landmark in the neighborhood, at a crossroads. The theme of the project required from us a contemporary expression, solid and transparent at the same time, a grading of spaces and a partition based on their team’s capability. We have worked with samples, as a tailor would do, so as to fit perfectly for those whom we outline the spaces for. The project is a scale exercise. The town planning regulations for a small lot, for a house in our case, made us to carefully analyze all joint formulas for surfaces which put on a simple, indivisible volume. The light withdrawals, sizes and positions of the holes, beyond the connections with interior spaces, aimed to match so as to be able to control the problem of scaling. In the vicinity a block of flats twice as high, and beyond it one three time taller and bigger, made us try transitions and mediations using all means available. The existing mature vegetation, giving up fences and amplifying the public space, combining materials and textures, represents the repertory of elements in fitting into that background. Basically an adequate architecture must find the proper balance from which the customer’s aspirations for landmarks are not to be missing.

An Office for Three Companies in New York by Only If

Thursday, November 10th, 2016

Article source: Only If

How to use color and material to unify an increasing amount of junk in the contemporary office landscape? An office interior for three companies is structured by a neutral background of white walls, white exposed ceilings, and a poured black floor. Everything connected to the floor is black. Everything connected to the ceiling is white. The three companies, while different and to a certain degree independent, are unified through this common material framework.

Located in New York’s Little Italy, Karma’s office was transformed by design studio FormNation into a modern space that combines Dutch and American design influences and provides transparency, communication and work-life balances for the employees.

Karma’s design brief was short, but clear: Design a space with 40 desks, ample break out areas, a war room, communal lunch space for 40, that fits the brand, and they had to move in there in 4 weeks.

Can Ramis in Alcúdia, Spain by Pedro Quero Arquitectos

PORTA NOVA (a new Gateway)

How should we design a place facing the remains of Alcudia’s historical walls? What action to take opposite to the historical fortifications in there since times of Jaume II? A reinterpretation of the walled citadel and the site´s symbolism gave us the key to solve the proposal.
