TFLATMATE | DWELLING in Barcelona, España by Nook Architects

Friday, September 1st, 2017

Article source: Nook Architects

Following the years after the civil war, the economic perils did not allow the city to expand and yet Barcelona experienced a considerable increase of population.  Barcelona’s industrial past allowed it to recover slightly quicker than the rural, more agriculture-based economies of the rest of the country, attracting many families that were in search of highly sought after employment.

Single-Family House Triangle in Nendeln, Liechtenstein by Ritter Schumacher AG

Friday, September 1st, 2017

Article source: Ritter Schumacher AG

High up on the quiet edge of the forest stands a monolithic triangle structure. Similar to a lean bow of a ship, the house volume cuts the air stream towards the south. At first glance, the outer contour seams surprising but both sides of the triangle fit perfectly into the special environment and relate to the hillside and the valley. The building features three sides and therefore is missing the shady backside.

This Manhattan apartment underwent a complete renovation, led by the Washington DC-based design firm Solis Betancourt & Sherrill. The goal of designers Paul Sherrill and Jose Solis Betancourt was to create a colorful  pied-a-terre that could showcase the client’s collection of Latin American art. It was important to create interiors that reflected the client’s elegant lifestyle, but that could also serve as a comfortable place where the client can spend time with her grandchildren.

The cylinder house is designed to fit between the trees of a wooded lot near Lyon, France.

For this house, the plan is based on a juxtaposition of a simple element, a cylinder. This cylinder can be opened, semi-open, closed, whatever its disposition it participates in the delimitation of space. It is an open plan, with the cylinder pieces as posts. There is a play of height offset on the cylinders to also provide a delimitation by the height of the ceilings.

Voordorp is a neighbourhood in Utrecht. The area was designed in the 90’s by several architects. Responsible for the supervision was the architect Theo Bos. He won the Rietveld prize for architecture for his urban scheme. Characteristically for the scheme is the small-scaled structure with many corners, gardens, entrances and a lot of new extensions which fit quite well in the architecture of the area.
