Refurbishment of a penthouse in Madrid, Spain by Mariano Molina Iniesta

Tuesday, April 4th, 2017

Article source: Mariano Molina Iniesta

When faced sometimes with the question “what kind of architecture are we up to?”, the most convincing answer is probably “the one that circumstances allow”. This is particularly true in the case of a refurbishment, in which preexistences, coupled with the program and the wishes of the client, leave little room for a purely speculative proposal.

Stone Clubhouse in Santa Ponça, Spain by GRAS Arquitectos

Tuesday, April 4th, 2017

Article source: GRAS Arquitectos

A golf club house always combines a social human activity with the fact of being in the middle of a natural environment, a golf course. The Project maximizes this combination: social interaction, it is a “ club” and landscape; A certain centrality, recognition is always needed; By being a clubhouse, no matter it is a small building, the project is the center, the heart, of a big natural area: it needs visibility without being invasive in the landscape.

Double house in Ulsan, SOUTH KOREA by On Architecture

Tuesday, April 4th, 2017

Article source: MasilWIDE

The house is located on a sloped corner site in the Innovation City, and it’s looking at a distant mountain in the northeast. The site is sitting at an intersection of a mixed-use housing block and a general dispatched housing block. To use the existing slope, the floor of the retail area on the 1st floor is divided from its corner into two in a diagonal direction, and the level of those two floors are set differently in order to maximize spatial flexibility. For the house on the 3rd floor, its access, entrance and living room are designed to offer a view to the mountain in the northeast. The living room is placed on a space where the mass is segmented in two directions so that it can be linked with a deck outside and also take advantage of natural ventilation all the time.

Cité internationale Paul Ricœur in Rennes, France by Hérault Arnod Architectes

Sunday, April 2nd, 2017

Article source: v2com

The plot is located at the interface between two very different urban logics: on one side, a modern district made up of wide public spaces and large-sized buildings, on the other, the historical town-centre consisting of smaller slate-roof buildings. One of the project’s challenges is to articulate the traditional city and the modern city scales, using both the organisation of its volumes and the layout of its functions.

Showflat H of Chengdu CR Bund Briliance Phase II in China by Shenzhen Qianxun Decorative Art and Design Co., Ltd

Sunday, April 2nd, 2017

Article source: Shenzhen Qianxun Decorative Art and Design Co., Ltd

This project advocates the combination of nature and humanities, and it adopts the interspersed animals and plants of nature to increase the vividness of the space. It presents a high quality leisure life style full of cultural ambience. With the dominant colors of glacier gray and taupe and partial embellishment of ocean blue, the color combination is harmonious and warm. Together with the flying birds decoration on the background wall, it gives the room a quiet atmosphere. The overall furniture style is steady and simple, and the rounded furniture not only softens the toughness of square building, but also fits the tradition of the East.

Irwin in Fremantle, Australia by MSG Architecture

Sunday, April 2nd, 2017

Article source: MSG Architecture

Irwin is a white box plugged in to an existing East Fremantle home.

The aim was to separate a breakout area and master bedroom to allow more room for kids and living in the existing house.

Simple materials, strategic windows and a transition space between old and new make this little add on perform well beyond it’s modest footprint.

K House in Niseko, Japan by Florian Busch Architects

Sunday, April 2nd, 2017

Article source: Florian Busch Architects

The brief for this house in what is often referred to as one of the world’s best winter destinations was straightforward: simple, energy-efficient, maintenance-free. By far the best piece left in a fairly large development of mostly quaint variations of the theme “mountain chalet” (and their to our brief inevitably opposed manifestations), the site added to that straightforwardness: Its asset —unhindered views of the volcano Yotei to the east— dictated the orientation; our nonchalant disinterest in (and consequential avoiding of) the neighbouring houses fine-tuned placement.

St Joseph in Melbourne, Australia by KUD – Kavellaris Urban Design

Saturday, April 1st, 2017

Article source: KUD – Kavellaris Urban Design

The St. Joseph project is a luxury residential development situated in Abbottsford, Victoria. Due to its historical significance the site has become part of the cultural landscape within the area, demanding a highly responsive and respectful design outcome. Our primary objective was to incorporate the critical components of school’s culture and history as a celebration and balance of the past and the future – creating ‘future heritage’ for the next generation. We were interested in exploring ways to interpret and represent the critical ‘story’ that created the culture and history of St Joseph’s Technical School. The design intent was to recreate multiple simultaneous layers of history within the articulated screens that wrap around the street frontage facades. The faceted panels create a “Lenticular Image”; an optical phenomenon whereby singular segments of an image converge at specific points of view to recreate the completed image.
