House Aartrijke in Zedelgem, Belgium by Atelier Tom Vanhee

Friday, October 28th, 2016

Article source: Atelier Tom Vanhee

The former farmhouse is situated in an agricultural area east of the village of Aartrijke, Belgium. The typology of the existing building will be used in a contemporary way to enlarge the dwelling. There will be two new volumes with a pitched roof slide against the existing volume. Two chimney shaped skylights will create light and a view on to the first floor. A third chimney will house the air outlet of the heat pump. Old and new collaborate together, but both will remain visible. The new volumes will be finished in wood. The old brick exterior will be felt inside when entering the house. The new stairs will be a reminder of the old mouldering stair that was removed. The buttresses and strips of brick in the floor show the former layout of the barn. The double height in the dwelling will make the living areas more spacious. A new preweathered zinc roof will connect the buildings into a whole. In addition to the replacement of the old joinery with new windows, the old volume will open up to the landscape on the rear side. The construction will be characterized by simple uniform windows according to the golden ratio.

The Forest House in Valencia, Spain by Ramon Esteve Estudio

Friday, October 28th, 2016

Article source: Ramon Esteve Estudio

The House in the Forest is settled in an extensive residential area. A large pine forest on the plot itself is the closest surroundings of the house.

On the basis of four stone walls, we generate prismatic volumes that fragment the space, identifying each room. The interstitial area between the parts is covered by an element of wood, which acts as a distributor and connector between the spaces of the house.

Article source: Caramel Architekten

In the neighbour’s garden, Densification can also be possible in built up settlement areas of one family houses. The property of House D is located in the middle of a block of buildings, which are surrounded by the local streets, and each building is part of the formation of a big wonderful garden right in the heart of the block. The generous building regulation allows us to build on all properties up to at least a quarter of the whole property area and thereby creates possibilities to divide properties and the densification of the green spaces.

Southwest Modern Townhome Development in Phoenix, Arizona by The Ranch Mine

Thursday, October 27th, 2016

Article source: The Ranch Mine

In many ways, “Uptown Row” is a development between two worlds. The site is situated less than 500 feet away from a light rail station in Uptown Phoenix, between a heavy commercial thoroughfare and historic residential district. Its typology straddles the line between a single-family home and multi-family complex. It is part of a city that relies on the automobile but is actively shifting towards public transportation. This 10-unit greyfield development designed by young Phoenix based architecture firm The Ranch Mine and built and developed by Boxwell Southwest finds harmony in a diverse neighborhood, stitching together disparate elements in a refined, modern complex.

The apartment of 44 m2 is designed for a young man. The main wish of the customer bachelor nest loft.

By itself, the loft includes large industrial premises converted into a living space, but we managed to achieve an atmosphere of style and vintage, using its elements. The main materials in the decoration of the apartment: brick, solid wood, natural stone — slate and wood veneer in furniture finishing.

The apartment will be used as a place to rest and sleep during the week and sometimes as a mini like this place at the weekend for a company of 5-6 people.

One of the main wishes in terms of functionality, it features a separate bedroom. The customer really wanted to sleep on a bed rather than a sofa bed.

Functionally, we shared an apartment in the following areas: entrance hall, bathroom with shower, kitchen-living room-dining room, bedroom.

The Pool House in Haslemere, England by Re-Format LLp

Wednesday, October 26th, 2016

Article source: Re-Format LLp

The mature and secluded site is located in Haslemere on the edge of the Surrey Hills, enjoying stunning, long ranging views towards the South Downs and beyond.

The client’s brief was for a detached ancillary building to the existing house, to provide an indoor pool and spa, gym, bicycle workshop and glasshouse. Above all the building had to be beautiful, finely crafted at every detail using the highest quality materials. The Pool House needed to function effortlessly in a variety of environments, whether for a relaxing solitary swim or a family pool party for 30.

Between Land and Sky home in Beit Zayit, Israel by Joel Jospe – Architects

Wednesday, October 26th, 2016

Article source: Joel Jospe – Architects

When I first saw the lot, the steep slope overlooking the Jerusalem neighborhood of Ein Karem, I wanted to do one thing only – to keep walking forward, hover in the air above the canyon, quietly observing the landscape visible in every direction. This was the primary motivation during planning. I did not give up this desire, or the opportunity inherent in it, and have given it to the owners.
