Kleine Rittergasse 11 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany by Franken Architekten

Tuesday, January 17th, 2017

Article source: Franken Architekten

Good architecture takes its environment into account, particularly surrounding buildings. In Frankfurt am Main, Franken Architekten has taken a literal approach through a digitally drawn façade for a new home and studio in old town Sachsenhausen.

Frankfurt’s Alt-Sachsenhausen is a neighborhood that, according to the city, urgently needed to change. Until the 1990s, traditional cider houses dominated the area valued for its entertainment and nightlife, but it was heavily run down in recent years. The city created a preservation statute that placed premiums on the conversion of the gastronomy establishments to housing and other uses. A small scene of art galleries, ad agencies, and fashion and designers shops sprung up in the area, leading some people to call the district SoMa (South of Main), inspired by New York’s famous SoHo (South of Houston) area.

Matola House in Elche, España by Jaime Sepulcre Arquitecturas

Tuesday, January 17th, 2017

Article source: Jaime Sepulcre Arquitecturas

This house is a hybrid of several types of houses: first of all the first thing it wants is to be a “house of the Camp d’Elx”, as those still populate the rural districts with its peculiar silhouette, whose traditional architecture makes use of ceramic decks inclined and the deep porches -for shade- oriented at noon; But at the same time it also wants to be a “house-patio Mediterranean”, introverted, protected from the outside and purely white; And also has in its genetics a “Californian house”, one of those sophisticated houses of the admired modern architecture of Los Angeles -with whom we share Mediterranean climate- that unfold their plants -many L shaped- in open horizontal spaces which overlook the gardens and the refreshing swimming pools.

House Vlijmen in Netherlands by Jan Couwenberg Architectuur

Tuesday, January 17th, 2017

Article source: Jan Couwenberg Architectuur

In the village of Vlijmen this house was designed for an elderly couple, who wanted to keep on living in this house as long as possible. Therefore, most of the program is located on ground level, on top only a spare bed- and bathroom are being made. The box from the ground level is being perforated with voids, where a small patio, wooden Western Red Cedar parts, or windows were made. By making this rhythm, a car port and patio-shaped exteriors give the house an extra layer between in- and outside.

Casa Garcias in Cancún, México by Warm Architects

Tuesday, January 17th, 2017

Article source: Warm Architects

Garcias’ House is located on a 273 square meter lot in a fast growing residential area of Cancun. The lot is adjacent in its northern and western sides with other residential lots, while it faces greenery to the east and the street to the south. The strategy for this project was to limit the habitable volume on the western side, in order to make the most of the view, the shadow and incorporate the public greenery with the interior of the house, thru the empty space between them.

Located in a residential condominium at Barra do Una Beach (located in São Sebastião, near of São Paulo city), the project UNA Pavilion was signed by the brazilian architecture office Apiacás Arquitetos. For this project, Apiacás had the feasibility as a premise, considering the choice of materials and mainly focusing on the constructive details, capable of organizing the assembly system. Therefore, the structure is made up of standardized and modular elements: the foundation was executed in concrete, followed by pillars and beams in Cumaru wood, strategically placed in central axes in order to give greater freedom to the pivotal doors that make up the facade.
