Krøyer Square in Copenhagen, Denmark by Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects and COBE

Tuesday, January 31st, 2017

Article source: COBE

Krøyers Plads is a five-story housing project with a significant location in the centre of the Copenhagen harbour area designed by Danish architects Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects and COBE. The award-winning and Nordic Eco-labelled project is now finished. The project is based on a hyper-democratic and contextual approach where folded roofs and architectural heaviness create a dialogue between old and new, and a modern, empathetic interpretation of the architectural uniqueness of the old Copenhagen warehouses.

Sliding Pergolas House in São Paulo, Brazil by FGMF

Tuesday, January 31st, 2017

Article source: FGMF

We were asked by a couple of a local University to design a residence of compact programme in a 500m² (5380ft²) site in a gated community. The husband, a technological-research specialist, longed for different-than-usual housing solutions, and had come into contact with our work through our “Tic-Tac Residence” concept-house (link below), that had been published a few months prior. His wife, on the other hand, wished their home to be more on the conventional side, but also put a lot of value in the relationship between the built-object and the site.

#48 Zero Energy in Geel, Belgium by Skilpod + UAU Collectiv

Saturday, January 28th, 2017

Article source: UAU Collectiv

The growing demand for and interest in new forms of living together inspired a Belgian entrepreneurial duo to develop the product Skilpod. A Skilpod is a mobile and modular housing construction that attaches great importance to its energetic properties but that is also always searching for progressive and diverse designs. By means of modular architecture Skilpod searches for a combination of flexibility and energy efficiency. The module is completely built and finished in the Skilpod-studio and subsequently transported and placed on the site. As a result the Skilpod is also moveable to a new location at a later time. The housing constructions are built out of a timber frame structure of CLT, Cross Laminated Timber, and fully isolated with a layer of rock wool insulation. In a Skilpod all techniques can be integrated that are used in a traditional house or office. Application of solar panels, heat pumps, ventilation systems, home automation systems etc. is possible, tailored to the user requirements.

59BTP-House in Singapore by ONG&ONG Pte Ltd

Friday, January 27th, 2017

Article source: ONG&ONG Pte Ltd

This was an Additions and Alterations project on an existing house in Bukit Timah. The owner’s father built the original house and the building was in an awkward position on the plot. According to the brief, the client wanted to have two master bedrooms along with four bedrooms – this required additional floor area as the original house area could not comfortably fit in the extra rooms. However, the architects resolved to make use of the existing structure and maintain its orientation by simply adding an additional volume to accommodate the extra bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms.

AAK Villa in Amwaj Islands, Bahrain by Moriq Interiors & Design Consultants

Friday, January 27th, 2017

Article source: Moriq Interiors & Design Consultants

This being an ocean facing plot, the client’s top most priority was the sea views, with lot of prominence to entertaining family and guests. He is also a good cook and wanted all extra kitchens (tepanyaki) and dining areas to be planned on the top most level as well to enjoy the views of the waters. The Master suite had to be well-equipped, multi-functional, multi-spatial, area with the best view of the ocean. The architecture and interior spaces had to be modern, technologically advanced and seamless. The Interior spaces should be flexible (as in open spaces to become private and vice versa). Privacy from neighbors and roads was a priority. This home is designed on a linear plot with attached homes on south and north sides and is opening to the sea on the west side and the road on the east side. Because of its location, it comes under high value properties of Amwaj, Bahrain. The plot covers 809.2sqmts and the total built up is977sqmts.The two side boundary walls looked like two imposing retaining walls and the home had to be designed within these walls. Because of the attached home layout covers the built up space could touch the two longer sides (south and north boundary walls) without any windows (so no light and ventilation) and views either.
