MMMMMS House in Girona, Spain by Anna & Eugeni Bach

Wednesday, December 27th, 2017

Article source: Anna & Eugeni Bach

The MMMMMS house is placed at the outskirts of Camallera, in a recent development area facing the village. Due to the location, the house is openly visible from the village.

The local building regulations are straightforward, specifying mere general characteristics for the new houses, such as stone cladding, or sloped roofs with “arab” tiles. The main aim of these regulations is to lead new buildings to look like old rural houses, the so called Catalan “masias”.

Tehama 1 in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California by Studio Schicketanz

Wednesday, December 27th, 2017

Article source: Studio Schicketanz

Studio Schicketanz organized the design of this house around a central cleared knoll and prioritized outdoor space, producing a deep exploration into the ways in which a structure can merge with and arise from a very specific ecological language. Textured stone walls give rise to controlled cement steps leading to a crisply modernist structure detailed with geometric framing and supporting a cantilevered roof that offers a shaded penumbra around the entirety of the structure. Light is at play everywhere, from the dappled light that hits the stone wall to the reflection of the majestic neighboring tree in the house’s expansive glass facade.

Villa L in Assen, the Netherlands by Mannen in de ruimte

Wednesday, December 27th, 2017

Article source: Mannen in de ruimte

For a new part of Assen, a city in the north of the Netherlands, architecture firm Mannen in de ruimte has developed a house with a distinct roof.

The clients asked for a house adapted for living at an advanced age that would fit their triangular shaped plot of land. They had realized that a traditional rectangular house would not work at this location. Nevertheless they did want a house the way a child draws a house: with brick walls and pitched roof.

Perforated House in Puszczykowo, Poland by SPACELAB

Thursday, December 21st, 2017

Article source: SPACELAB

The perforated house interior appeared in a completely rebuilt one-storey villa of the 1980s. The owners, who had been living there for a couple of years with their two sons, already planned a change of the inconvenient layout of rooms.

The house was surrounded by vast arboreous garden and had a great location, which finally affected the investors’ decision – instead of constructing a bigger building in a new place, they decided to follow the laborious path of total reconstruction of the existing house. This choice meant that the interior together with installations could be totally rebuilt while the exterior could be left intact.
