AL Apartment in Mexico City by MAPmx Studio

Tuesday, March 14th, 2017

Article source: MAPmx Studio

MAPmx Studio inserts wooden object into residential apartment.

Mexico City practice, MAPmx has completed a residential interior in the northwest area of Mexico City. The strategy for the design of the 360 sqm apartment was to place a wooden piece into the main space. This element inside of the unit, divides the space into half creating separated areas for public and private program. Living, dining and study are concave, while leaving private areas convex. Service spaces such as kitchen, laundry and service bedroom are the only program located outside of the concave/ convex object, they join part of the perimeter of the apartment.

High Meadow Dwellings at Fallingwater in Pennsylvania by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson

Thursday, March 9th, 2017

Article source: Bohlin Cywinski Jackson

Located on a historic farm adjacent to Frank Lloyd Wright’s renowned Fallingwater residence, High Meadow serves as home base for students of Fallingwater Institute’s summer residency programs in architecture, art, and design.

Positioned between forest and field, four modest dwellings with simple wood interiors and framed vistas of the surrounding hilltops rest lightly above ground on a network of nimble steel columns and delicate tectonics, imparting minimal disturbance to the site. An angled shroud at the end of each unit catches cool breezes rising up from the valley floor below and shields the naturally ventilated rooms from the summer sun. Screened entry doors allow for additional airflow and connect the units to a covered walkway.

Article source: Pascal Arquitectos

This project does not seek to replicate the typical southeast house (Mayan) but to achieve a modern version that is repeatable and easily constructed in  time and cost, using materials from the region. The design promotes life in the inisde  and also  in contact with the outside, integrating it to its environment and giving continuity to the customs from the region, thus achieving sustainable housing through reuse of water; zero discharge; alternative energies and systems that allow to save energy and resources with the possibility of not being connected to any municipal network.

Wednesday, March 8th, 2017

Article source: GARDERA-D Architecture

The House R is located at Anglet on an estate of 1000m². The relatively large dimensions of the plot (50x20m) give a horizontal lecture to the field which compose the start of the project. The North-South orientation, the sun path and the pre-existing houses around the site were also predominant data for the design of the project.

The house is set back from the street, clearing a parking space for three vehicles.
