Wooden Family House in the Village in Dobříš, Czech Republic by Mimosa Architects

Wednesday, March 29th, 2017

Article source: BoysPlayNice

The house is located in the colony of weekend cottages near a game preserve, which colony consists of small sized quaint houses, each of them being built according the taste and skill of its individual owner. The houses, mostly “non-kissed by architecture”, pay tribute to individual owner’s capriciousness and improvisation.

As to its shape our house seems, a little, a kind of freak, too. Its forms were motivated by the wish of its future occupiers to have an unusual, environmentally soft house (“no box”) built of natural materials.

Article source: Aurora Arquitectos

Can one house contain another two?

There is a question that is repeated frequently when intervening in an apartment building. In order to have a garden, one needs to renounce the view. In turn, to have the view it means to choose one of the last floors, usually far from where the garden is.

Tuesday, March 28th, 2017

Article source: Pedro Ferreira Architecture Studio

The Alves da Veiga project aimed to reconvert an old typography, built in the nineteenth century and abandoned for decades, in a set of six apartments, maintaining all the structure and spatial concept of preexistence.

The original building, though appearing from the outside only two storeys, in fact contained a curious floor + mezzanine organization that actually embodied four habitable floors.

Casa Kwantes in Rotterdam, Netherlands by MVRDV

Tuesday, March 28th, 2017

Article source: MVRDV

Casa Kwantes bases itself around the clients’ desire for seclusion and privacy, whilst having a maximum of daylight and open living spaces. From the road, the bare brick wall offers only a partial glimpse into the property and family life through an opening of the white brickwork façade – a subtle indented entrance leading into an initially dark and enclosed entrance hall. In contrast, the reverse of the property completely opens up to the south with curved windows following the entire winding façade wrapped around a central olive tree.
