Monday, April 2nd, 2018

Article source: v2com

This building is characterized by its interplay between opacity and transparency and between interior and exterior. It is very carefully integrated into its setting, following the site’s topography so closely that the building appears to be sculpted from the landscape itself. The mix of materials and colours gives it character, while creating clear boundaries between different spaces.

Maybanke in Sydney, Australia by Allen Jack+Cottier Architects Pty Ltd

Monday, April 2nd, 2018

Article source: v2com

Design ingenuity and a dose of respect for its original Gothic Revival bones deliver a blighted 1870s harbourside home in Sydney into the 21st century.

CROSSING THE GOTHIC REVIVAL threshold of Maybanke, the waterfront home on Sydney Harbour with a distinguished history, is to traverse 150 years in a few short steps.

Panoramic water views, an abundance of penetrating antipodean light and a five-storey sculptural stair – that together would surely have befuddled and amazed the 1870s sensibilities of the individuals who built the original building – leave the modern visitor in no doubt which century this home now squarely belongs.

The Wooden Wing in Lac-Supérieur, Canada by yiacouvakis hamelin, architectes

Sunday, April 1st, 2018

Article source: v2com

The Wooden Wing is a large cottage on the shores of Lac Supérieur, in Quebec’s Laurentians.

The house is perched on a sizeable outcrop of granite bedrock, giving it a commanding yet intimate view of the lake and Mont Tremblant, on the other side.

The living spaces sit on a large, semi-polished concrete slab raised slightly above the natural outcrop, putting the house in close contact with its natural surroundings, from which it is separated by distinctive clear glass walls.

104 Social Housing and Home Ownership in Ivry-sur-Seine, France by aEa, agence Engasser+associés

Sunday, April 1st, 2018

Article source: v2com

Located on a plot of land in Ivry-sur-Seine and close to the river, this 104-unit project had to adapt to the physical constraints of its environment while enhancing the brief with added value. Composed of three apartment buildings, two of which are for private ownership and the third for social housing, the buildings stand in a verdant environment with a landscaped inner garden, visual openings onto the Seine and roof terraces enhanced by flower- and kitchen-gardens open to everyone.

Arranged in a staggered design, the three buildings are broken down into varying volumes, materials and tones so as to create variations of scale and embellish them with slimmer lines.

A dense, urban project that the agency has transformed with panache into a habitat favourable to encounters and conviviality in a bucolic setting.

Minimalist Opulence in Dubai, United Arab Emirates by EDGE

Sunday, April 1st, 2018

Article source: v2com

Located less than 150 metres from the beach at the prestigious Jumeirah Beach Residence in Dubai, the flagship project sets a new standard for luxury in the Persian Gulf region. The design principles behind the building are guided by two main goals: waterfront views and spatial clarity.

The waterfront views are special because they will be visible from every room in every unit. Residents will look out over Dubai’s iconic landmarks, including Skydive Dubai, Palm Island, Blue Waters Island and Ain Dubai. This guiding principle gives added value to the land and maximizes revenue for the developer.

Article source: VO TRONG NGHIA ARCHITECTS

Under the rapid urbanization, cities in Vietnam have diverged far from their origins as low density tropical green space. Newly developed urban areas are losing their connection with nature. Binh house is one project in the “House for Trees” series, a prototypical housing design, providing green space within high density neighborhood.

The Inhabitants is a family of three generations. Therefore, the challenge is to create spaces which allow its residents interact and communicate despite their differences.

Sky House in Stoney Lake, Canada by Julia Jamrozik and Coryn Kempster

Sunday, April 1st, 2018

Article source: v2com

Negotiating the steep topography of a lake-side site, this holiday house consists of two volumes stacked on one another. The lower volume nestles into the landscape so that it is barely visible as one first approaches the house. The upper volume rests on the lower one and on a concrete pier to form both a bridge and a cantilever. This massing strategy allows for increased access and permeability of the site and emphasizes the charged relationship between the building and the ground.
