Artrovert: Conversations in Grey in Greater Noida, India by Anagram Architects

Friday, March 31st, 2017

Article source: Anagram Architects

Brief

Artrovert is our project to design a studio in a peri-urban artists’ colony, Kaladham, in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The 280 sqm. studio is built on a 300 sqm trapezoidal plot which is one of 216 arranged in an octagonal grid. Our client-collaborator is a multi-media artist whose politically charged works interrogate binaries, challenge representation and explore the anti-aesthetic.Equally unconventionally, her vision for her studio was not the typical introverted artist’s “cave” but rather an extroverted residency where the creation of art and the living of the artist are shared with her precinct. Acutely aware of Kaladham’s location at the urban edge, she hopes such an outward expression and blurring of territory would lay seeds of well-knit social networks for a growing community.

Matryoshka house in Rotterdam, The Netherlands by Shift architecture urbanism

Friday, March 31st, 2017

Article source: Shift architecture urbanism

Matryoskha House transforms an early 20th century townhouse into two high-end apartments by radically opening it up. Situated in the center of Rotterdam, the house was in a derelict state due the previous owner’s conversion of it into a sub-standard workers’ hotel. Bothered by the neglect, a neighbor acquired the property and gave Shift architecture urbanism the commission to give it an extreme makeover.

Residence in Sikamino, Greece by Tense Architecture Network

Friday, March 31st, 2017

Article source: Tense Architecture Network

The field is elongated, rural, planted with olive trees. The land is dominant. –How could a residence rise out of the ground, how could it be confined to a roof? The residence is its roof. A 60 meters long one. While approaching the plot, it can be perceived as a slightly elevated strip of earthy crust in front of the distant mountains of Euboea. It can be walked on. The roof is born from and returns back to the ground; it is planted likewise: helichrysum, drosanthemum, lavender, gauras, thyme. The roof’s shape is rhomboid and the living space is hosted under its central, maximum width area, while the sleeping quarters occupy the edges.

Wooden Family House in the Village in Dobříš, Czech Republic by Mimosa Architects

Wednesday, March 29th, 2017

Article source: BoysPlayNice

The house is located in the colony of weekend cottages near a game preserve, which colony consists of small sized quaint houses, each of them being built according the taste and skill of its individual owner. The houses, mostly “non-kissed by architecture”, pay tribute to individual owner’s capriciousness and improvisation.

As to its shape our house seems, a little, a kind of freak, too. Its forms were motivated by the wish of its future occupiers to have an unusual, environmentally soft house (“no box”) built of natural materials.
