The intervention in the former building of the GNR (military police) brings together all the concept of dynamism of Braga European Youth Capital 2012. The project uses the concept of occupation as motif. The occupation by man and nature. It explores the boundary between an abandoned existing structure and a new invasor construction who takes over the space. A space in constant regeneration, rather than a final object.

Brigham and Women’s Hospital yesterday broke ground on the Brigham Building for the Future, a 620,000-square-foot translational research and clinical facility designed by NBBJ.

The 11-story Brigham Building for the Future, located on the hospital’s Longwood campus,will house eight floors of research laboratories, three floors of clinics, a state-of-the-art imaging facility, social spaces, and a 400-car garage, along with associated site improvements.

The new wind turbine completes Sky Studios, Sky’s state-of-the-art broadcasting centre.  BSkyB’s brief for a world-leading, genuinely sustainable HQ challenged Arup Associates to capture every viable natural resource on the London site and to radically minimise energy use throughout. It is the most sustainable facility of its type in the world.

Serafides Holiday House – Platres in Cyprus by VARDASTUDIO ARCHITECTS & DESIGNERS

House with a wooden skin

The house is located on a very steep hill in an ethnical village of Cyprus. The facades and the roof of this house comprise one entity. The ‘skin’ , the wrapping of the building, consisting of Iroko wood cladding, is open in strategic places in order to let the environment in – “window to nature”.

Border School (Moving School) in Mae Sot, Tak, Thailand by Eleena Jamil Architect

The Border School is intended to provide teaching accommodation for children of migrant families in Mae Sot, Tak, Thailand, close to the border of Burma. The land on which the school is situated is leased as migrant teachers and students cannot legally own it. As such, landlords may take over the land together with any buildings on it at anytime. As such, the school is designed as a modular portable school that can be easily dismantled and re-assembled on another possible site.

The Barton College Studio Theatre establishes a home for a burgeoning theater program at Barton College, a small liberal arts school in eastern North Carolina. Owing to its location on the campus, the theater creates two spaces: one fronts the campus’ iconic chapel, the other works in conjunction with the Fine Arts and Music Building to create an arts quad where theater patrons, actors, and students mingle before and after performances.
