The parents work in Prague, but live in the country in a family house with a garden. This strong trend in the Czech Republic represents mainly standardized houses from catalogues.

Audio Nova in SintNiklaas, Belgium by LABSCAPE Architecture+ ZEST Design (designed with Rhino 3D)

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

Article source: LABSCAPE Architecture+ ZEST Design

The purpose is to de-dramatize the feeling of being a “patient”. A balance should be found in order to have a medical touch as the “hearing environment” demands to be hygienic, clean… but also human.  Besides that, the concept must express professionalism and technical competence but in the sense of “state of the art”.

Sapphire Residential Gallery in Los Angeles, California by XTEN Architecture (designed with Rhino and AutoCAD)

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

Article source: XTEN Architecture

The Sapphire Gallery is a residential addition designed to display a private collection of contemporary art while also providing for a home office with views to the surrounding hills. The owners’ collection includes work by the artists Gregory Crewdson, Uta Barth, Tomoroy Dodge and the video artist Jennifer Steinkamp, and they wanted a new building that would be more than just a container for their art collection. The new gallery extension is multivalent, with different spaces for presenting artworks, while also opening to hillside views, incorporating a home office, and creating a compelling new focal point for the approach and entry to the property.

Hotel Liesma in Jurmala, Latvia by BNKR Arquitectura

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

Article source: BNKR Arquitectura

A hotel that aims to reproduce in material form the ephemeral process of the diffusion of sound.  This is a process of vibrant outward expression and subsequent decay.  It is a narrative of the loss of integrity and dematerialization in space.

Blurred House in Melbourne, Australia by BiLD Architecture (designed using Rhino)

Friday, December 23rd, 2011

Article source: BiLD architecture

The first in a series of studies into the adaptation of vernacular Australian suburban typologies, ‘Blurred House’ is a major renovation and extension to an original 1930’s Californian bungalow in Melbourne’s inner-north. Reacting to the established convention of residential extension which prescribes a jarring juxtaposition of existing ‘old’ and introduced ‘new’ architectural elements; the ‘Blurred House’ offers an alternative proposition; that of a blurring between ‘old’ and ‘new’ to produce a hybrid. Gradually transitioning from the vernacular to the contemporary, the division of architectural elements are deliberately ambiguous, producing a unique formal and visual language.

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Article source: J. MAYER H. Architects

The Court of Justice is one of two iconic projects within the new urban development around the main rail station. The logistics and siting of a courthouse with multiple security barriers of security results in a massing composed of three interconnected volumes. References include the old industrial steel structures that formerly occupied and defined the site, their organic Belgian Art Nouveau forms constituting part of the cultural heritage of Hasselt. There are also echoes of a tree, which, in addition to being is the Hasselt town emblem, as well as also harks back to the historicpre-medieval European tradition  of holding a special “place of speaking justice” underneath a large tree in the center of a dwelling.
