Ordos 20+10 Office Complex in China by Preston Scott Cohen designed using Rhino

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

Article source: Preston Scott Cohen

2011 P/A  Award Citation

One essential aspect of the modern office tower is the efficient, open plan found on each level.  An office building which attempts sculptural exuberance risks undermining this tried and true logic.  However, simple extruded rectangular boxes lack the iconic presence corporations seek as well as the spatial interest that occupants appreciate. The Ordos Office Complex employs an economical formal idea, avoiding sculptural excess by deploying a hot and cool approach.  A neutral skin and efficient floor plans are intensified by spatial incidents deep within the building as well as social spaces that multiple tenants can share.

Ciné-moiré: Changing the Face of Pushkin Square in Moscow, Russian Federation by Barker Freeman Design Office (designed using Rhino, Grasshopper, and Maxwell)

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

Article source: Barker Freeman Design Office

Our proposal for the historic Pushkinsky Theater creates a programmatic envelope for the existing volume that expands the territory of the theater into a series of enfolded layers and surfaces that connect the building enclosure to the plinth on which it resides and out onto the landscape of Pushkin Square itself.  The shifting angles of the new envelope knit together the two axes in the public space of the square:  the building’s frontal alignment with the park, fountain and Pushkin statue and its diagonal relationship to the Boulevard Ring angling away from it.

Second Skin for The Lake and Stars by Barker Freeman Design Office designed using Rhino, V-Ray, and Grasshopper

Friday, August 12th, 2011

Article source: Barker Freeman Design Office

SECOND SKIN is an installation proposal designed to complement the aesthetic and image of the clothing line of the Lake and Stars.  The initial concept was to develop a space that recalled the way in which the designers see lingerie as something that can be playfully exposed and integrated into everyday wear.  The architects developed surfaces of abstracted “skins” that alternately reveal and conceal spaces with varying levels of privacy.  Fittingly, teh inspiration for the structure comes from the pissoirs that line the banks of canals in Amsterdam.
