Primary School in Loiano, Italy by Studio Contini

Monday, November 5th, 2018

Article source: Studio Contini

The new primary school in Loiano was completed and tested in 12 months in respect of the times and amounts of contract and without reservation by the enterprise and public administration.

As an established tradition of the study, the search for a harmonious relationship with the geographical context and the well-being of future users drove the design and subsequent implementation.

The volumes of the school building, located in an area of scenic interest at the Bologna Apennines, were partly buried to limit the visual impact upstream, thus to obtain two distinct levels for classes and workshops, both with free rein to the spacious green areas.

Marine Sports Base, Marine Navigation Sports School in Shenzhen, China by Beijing Institute of Architectural Design

Tuesday, October 30th, 2018

Article source: Beijing Institute of Architectural Design

The total construction area of the whole project is only 27180m2, but the function is numerous and the ground level of the site is highly variable. For this, we put forward the design principle of “minimum the effect to the environment”. Through the site analysis, we divided buildings into many small parts combined with functional partition, and arranged the buildings along the harbour and mountain, and ensure the buildings all can have a good view of the landscape and good ventilated condition and  good day lighting. At the same time, the water design of water tank and the floating pier are used to minimize the impact of the natural environment in the basin. Artificial architectural forms integrate into the site environment in a natural way, forming a rhythmic building ecological community.

The Forum at Marvin Hall in Lawrence, Kansas by Studio 804, Inc.

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018

Article source: Studio 804, Inc.

The Forum was conceived in 2004 by John Gaunt, Dean the University of Kansas School of Architecture, Design & Planning from 1995 to 2015. Located off historic Jayhawk Boulevard, the addition to historic School of Architecture at Marvin Hall addresses the school’s critical need for an auditorium for lecture courses and guest speakers, while also providing a separate breakout jury space for student reviews and presentations. In this way, students of the School of Architecture will no longer be required to trek across campus to attend their classes, but rather, will attend classes in a building that exemplifies their studies on emerging technologies, passive design strategies, and energy-efficient mechanical systems.

Lycée Français Maternelle Barcelona in Spain by b720 Fermín Vázquez Architects

Thursday, September 27th, 2018

Article source: b720 Fermín Vázquez Architects

The existing school was the result of additions of temporary buildings over many years around two villas of the early twentieth century. The new set brings forward a dialogue between the historical school and the new one. A visual and programmatic relationship is established between both buildings, through a porch that allows indoor communication connecting them with a space under which to shelter in case of rain.

Community school Het Dok in Oegstgeest, The Netherlands by Paul de Ruiter Architects

Tuesday, September 4th, 2018

Article source: Paul de Ruiter Architects

Going to school in a wooded environment where it’s all about sustainability. Het Dok is a new community school where kids can learn and play safely, and where nature is tangible both outside and in every class room. Natural materials, fresh air and lots of daylight were the most important starting points for the design.

Community school Het Dok comprises a primary school, a day care center, a nursery school, a sports hall, a music school, and exhibition and multifunctional spaces. These functions are divided between the ground floor and the first floor, and are directly connected with the circular courtyard. The complex has a natural and comfortable appearance because of its wooden construction.

School Hoek in Zaventem, Belgium by ebtca architecten

Monday, August 20th, 2018

Article source: ebtca architecten

A new school in the city park of Zaventem. The design idea is to plant the building as modest as possible on the site to preserve the existing trees and green space. The location of the building is determined by giving solution at the least pleasant edge zone of the park. The park gets a new ‘hoek’ [angle]. The building becomes an extension of the park by a dubious play of inside/outside bounderies.
