Haileybury Astana School in Astana, Kazakistan by Cinici Architects

Thursday, November 1st, 2012

Article source: Cinici Architects

Haileybury, one of the Britain’s oldest and most prestigious independent boarding schools, has its Astana Campus situated on a 12 hectares site, with 20 000 m2 closed area. There were three challenges while developing the design idea of this campus: the vast and flat layout of the city, the complexity of the programme and the climatic conditions. The challenge of complexity aroused its counterpart, simplicity, as the main design strategy.

School in Balsiai in Vilnius, Lithuania by a.s.a. Sigitas Kuncevičius Architecture Studio

Thursday, October 25th, 2012

Article source: a.s.a. Sigitas Kuncevičius Architecture Studio

This primary school designed for 828 pupils is the first modern school that was built from scratch in Vilnius in the 20 years since Lithuania’s independence. As the surrounding urban fabric has no cohesive urban concept, the new school was intended to give the area an unequivocal focal point. It is also intended to serve a broader function for the wider community after school hours and over weekends.

Ecole ITP in Walloon Brabant, Belgium by A229

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012

Article source: A229

The extension of the institute professionnel et technique de court-saint-Etienne is enigmatic and refined. we are struck by the shape of the building, designed by a229, and its dialogue with the surrounding area. Besides its environmentally responsible character, it shows that contemporary architecture has a role to play in public architecture.

Saturday, October 20th, 2012

Article source: Grupa 5 Architekci

An elementary school in a picturesque and tranquil suburbian town near Warsaw.

The building is embedded in a unique setting in the center of the town – surrounded by freestanding family houses, intimate gardens and an old church. In order to tie in to the existing context, the relatively large object was divided into several smaller ones, with the largest part – the gym hidden at the back.

Binh Duong School in Vietnam by Vo Trong Nghia Architects

Tuesday, October 9th, 2012

Article source: Vo Trong Nghia Architects

Binh Duong, a new city which is 30 minutes away from Ho Chi Minh City, has a typical tropical climate all year round. The site is located in the middle of a flourishing forest with a wide variety of green and fruits, running rampant. This is where folks spending their time under the shade of trees. To pursuit a beautiful life, people are in harmony with the nature, making the border between the inside and the outside ambiguously. From the very first impression of the site, we tried to embed the building into the site by delivering this Vietnam-oriented generous spirit of natural land into the school design, which will eventually have 800 students.

Druk White Lotus School in Indus Valley, India by Arup Associates

Saturday, September 29th, 2012

Article source: Arup Associates

The Druk White Lotus School is located in the Indus Valley, Northern India. An environment of extremes, and lying at 3,500m above sea level, this is a high-altitude desert landscape where temperatures fall to -30 degrees Celcius in winter; for about five months of each year the region is cut off from the rest of India by snow.
The challenge was to create a centre of local culture, education and communication that integrates the region of Ladakh’s unique cultural and architectural heritage with appropriate opportunities to be found in contemporary design.

Müller-Guttenbrun-Schule in Buchen, Germany by Trapez Architektur Dirk Landwehr

Saturday, September 29th, 2012

Article source: Trapez Architektur Dirk Landwehr

Orientation, scale and the reference to the diversity of outdoor spaces were factors determining the form of the new school building. The historically listed existing structure was the starting point of a new ensemble of buildings which were lined up and rotated to form the central organizing principle, an ‘inner-path’ providing not only for circulation, but also break-out areas providing a variety of functions.

Extension Of Public School “Es Cremat” By Duch-Piza Arquitectos

Tuesday, September 4th, 2012

Article source: Duch-Piza Arquitectos

Extension of an old school in which we had to keep the central cloister. Because of its slope, the plot was divided into  thin  terraces. The section of the building contains in its interior outdoor spaces, lit naturally  from  the roof, which are linked on an ascending tour and can remain open in non opening school hours. The former cloister, turned into a big assembly hall, appears on a diagonal view from the entrance hall.  The gym was partially buried, expanding the horizontal extent of the plant and we place a sports track on its roof. This area, separate from the school by a courtyard, has independent access from the side street.
