FOLDING into SERENITY in Taipei City, Taiwan by 317studio

Monday, October 29th, 2018

Article source: 317studio

The owner of this project, who had lived in Japan for a long time, has a unique taste for wood of space and paper art.

The core concept is “folding paper”.

We studied its folding process from flat to a 3D box so that can contain functional objects and serene atmosphere inside.

This movement concept allowed us to form a very simple space that can be folded inside. With the technique of extension in that long space, the floor is extended to the wall, and along to the ceiling.

Rio Vista Residence in Dallas, Texas by Buchanan Architecture

Friday, October 26th, 2018

Article source: Buchanan Architecture

The Rio Vista Residence is a 2,160 square foot single-family residence located on a cliff overlooking the Trinity River and downtown Dallas. The site is situated on a cul-de-sac in an established neighborhood and has panoramic views to the north. The existing topography forms a natural clearing for the building in the center of the site with native trees to the south, east, and west.

Passive solar orientation for the residence is along an east/west axis with views and natural light to the north, morning light from the east, shaded breezes from the south, and minimal exposure to the west. Energy efficient building systems are paired with sustainable materials to create a high-performance, durable, low-maintenance home.

Article source: Maly & Krasota Design

Maly Krasota Design recently completed a two-storey apartment project in Kiev for a large family.

In addition to having two small children in the family who need space for games, apartment owners often receive guests. Therefore, one of the basic requirements for design, was the possibility of transforming the premises for different scenarios: the space should be convenient for both cozy family evenings and for noisy parties with many friends.

Baltic Club in Montreal, Canada by IVYSTUDIO

Sunday, October 7th, 2018

Article source: IVYSTUDIO

Following the success of their first stationary boutique, the Baltic Club owners opened a second location in Montreal, this time on Mount-Royal Avenue in the Plateau borough. Despite its great location in the heart of the city, the selected space has one important constraint: its narrow width of 9’6” made it quite a challenge for dynamic circulation and product display. The objective was to design a functional space that truly portrayed the playful world found in the company’s varied products.

The Coyle in Washington by Prentiss + Balance + Wickline Architects

Thursday, October 4th, 2018

Article source: Prentiss + Balance + Wickline Architects

Located on a long peninsula extending south into Hood Canal, this vacation house for a Seattle family draws inspiration from its site and the owner’s Danish roots. Using the clean, economical forms and materials of the classic Danish sommerhus as a starting point, the program is separated into three gabled structures whose composition carefully integrates with the site and maximizes its two distinct views. The simple forms, clad in dark stained cedar, sit quietly in the landscape, straddling the transition between dense Douglas fir and a small meadow that falls abruptly to the water.

Located in a small Cape Cod style house in the Seattle’s Meadowbrook neighborhood, the benefits of compartmentalization have been taken to a new spatial level with this innovative remodel designed by PMDA and built by Karlstrom Associates.

In order to maximize space while also creating a private sanctuary, the architects conceptualized of the home’s basement as a piece of furniture; specifically, a cabinet to contain both utilitarian functions and surprises.

Rin Wedding in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam by District1architects

Sunday, September 30th, 2018

Article source: District1architects

The project is about a building 6 meters wide and 13 meters long located on the main street Ho Van Hue, which has a variety of choice in wedding service in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. Although the street is approximately 500 meters long, both sides of it are full of shops specializing in wedding service. Most of them use aluminum panels to decorate the façade and to hang all kinds of advertising signs. Walking on this street, people would feel as if they were walking in a lane full of heavy shapes, high blocks which look like matched boxes standing next to each other.
