Cassia Coop Training Centre in Sumatra, Indonesia by TYIN tegnestue Architects

Sunday, October 14th, 2012

Article source: TYIN tegnestue Architects

Project Description

The work on Cassia Coop Training Centre started during the autumn of 2010. It all began with a visit from a French businessman, Patrick Barthelemy. He had come all the way from Sumatra to our office in Trondheim, and sat before us with a fascinating story and a briefcase full of cinnamon. Part of the story told of how an area of Sumatra supplies 85 % of the cinnamon consumed worldwide. Yet another and more sinister part of the story concerned workers without rights, underpaid and working long days in unsafe and unsanitary factories. The story made an impression on us. After a year of planning we found ourselves deep within the cinnamon forests of Sumatra, ready to design and build a sustainable cinnamon school for local farmers and workers.

Visitor Centre in Australia by Jonathan Gibb – Architect

Saturday, September 29th, 2012

Article source: Jonathan Gibb – Architect

The split form is at once an ode to the landforms of the genus loci (rock out-crops) and the cultural interweave of local cultures. The building is distinctly two forms, the same yet mirrored & reversed to give a individuality & yet allowing each to speak – open faced to one another in constant dialogue. This dialogue is continued to the landscape by the form of the building, mimicking the shafts of rock and forming of stairs.

Three interventions in a 5000 m2 plot in a suburb of Santiago: A meditation hall (or Dojo) at the bottom of the site, a small pavilion in front of the family pool, and the refurbishment of a terrace that was virtually unusable because of high temperature and reflected light. In each case, outdoor spaces were enhanced to face the high temperatures in spring and summer.

Modernist Pavilion by Eduardo V. Flores

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

Article source:  Eduardo V. Flores

Starting very early cultural production aimed at the promotion of a genuinely Brazilian Architecture, Eduardo deepened in the areas of Design, Architecture and Arts, rescuing several fundamental characteristics of Brazilian Modernism of the 40s. Based on School Carioca, a national style of architecture internationally called Brazilian Style, the artist brings out the whole spirit of that era combining an invigorating nostalgic architecture to what is most modern and sustainable building processes. In defense of a truly Brazilian style, Eduardo has raised questions among academic students of Architecture and managed to change the view of students who had a predilection for international styles and achieved more followers of his vision \”Neo-Modernist\”.
