Unibrown Coffe – Touching Store in Shanghai, China by Mur Mur Lab

Wednesday, February 26th, 2020

Article source: Mur Mur Lab

Despite several manuscripts, the space in the center for only one person has not changed. It looks like a monument, and it make surrounding objects become meaningful.

Inside the 1 m2 room called ‘Moment’, there will be an exhibition about Mur Mur Lab and Unibrown. We will start a discussion of the relationship between coffee, construction and the flowing of the space, and it is also about connection between the ‘time’ and ‘personal identity’.

Through the folds that looks like the curtain of veil, we often watch the looming crowd, the spread of the terrace and the greenery outside the window. The noise and jolly time belong to the outside world, but the quietness and serenity belongs to inside world, like being on the mountaintop.

Dongxiang Culture Center in Gansu Province, China by CU Office

Wednesday, February 19th, 2020

Article source: CU Office

Place and Site:

Dongxiang Culture Center is built in Maxiang village, Dongxiang autonomous county, Gansu province, China. On three sides (except for the south side) is the village surrounded by Tao River , a tributary of Yellow River. It is located on the Loess Plateau with an altitude of about 1,700 meters. The village is not only the settlement of Dongxiang people who are Muslims but also a village of the Han people. Due to its close proximity to the Tibetan area, there are also many Tibetan Buddhism temples in the region.  Being a small village but full of rich and diverse history and culture, Maxiang is a extremely rare place in countryside with Muslim mosques, a Taoist temple and a Tibetan Buddhism temple. Therefore, how to involve the newly-built culture center in this multi-cultural complexity of space and time is the focus for the architect.

Cepario Bioseeding in Ecuador, South America by Estudio Felipe Escudero

Tuesday, February 4th, 2020

Article source: Estudio Felipe Escudero

“Cepario” is a space dedicated to the meticulous growth of bacteria in Ecuador. The futuristic design features a curved cantilevered hub that overlooks an open laboratory space. From the top, viewers and employees can oversee the processes and research happening underneath at the large area at a human scale. However, when looking into the microscopes, they can see the intricate, miniature life of the bacteria being studied at a microscopic level. The change in scales from the human to the bacterial is further emphasized in the extensive spaces contrasting the nature of the work.

Mosbrew Brewing Company in Mytishchi, Russia by FORM Bureau

Monday, January 27th, 2020

Article source: FORM Bureau

Moscow Brewing Company has launched a new brand space that includes a tasting room, company store and lounge zone, located on the vast brewery grounds.

The space was previously used for the project «Brewhouse», that provided young street artists with a platform for displaying their work. As part of the new project, fragments of the artworks have been preserved on the walls. They have an influence on zoning scenarios and the design of individual elements.
The entrance area is characterized by bold formal compositions that draw on the symbolism and aesthetics of the company. Custom designed elements echo industrial machinery; a steel tasting ‘tank’ bar stand, massive pipe–shaped lamps and benches that resemble huge wire spools.

Forum Groningen in The Netherlands by NL Architects

Wednesday, January 15th, 2020

Article source: NL Architects

Forum Groningen is a new multifunctional building in the center of Groningen, a cultural ‘department store’ filled with books and images, that offers exhibition spaces, movie halls, assembly rooms, restaurants. The Forum aspires to become a platform for interaction and debate, a ‘living room’ for the city.

Forum Groningen is NOT a library, NOT a museum, NOT a cinema, but a new type of public space where the traditional borders between these institutes will dissolve. Information will be presented thematically in a way that transcends the different media.

Sunday, January 5th, 2020

Article source: Raulino Silva Arquitecto

In the center of Vila do Conde, north of Portugal, we find a small, narrow and empty store, without dividing walls and naked of decor. The storefront opens to Dr. João Canavarro avenue, one of the most importants streets in this city. In the back there is a small window near to the ceiling, which allows ventilation of the space and some light on the north side.

The building facades are preserved without any kind of intervention and the existing window frames are kept to control costs. On the back façade the frame in wood is only painted inside.
