Lake Sammamish State Park Bathhouse in Issaquah, Washington by Patano Studio Architecture

Saturday, December 19th, 2015

Article source: Patano Studio Architecture

Lake Sammamish State Park Redevelopment is organized around the fundamental principal of integrating the buildings with the landscape and the landscape with the buildings, blurring the distinctions between the two disciplines. Patano Studio Architecture’s competition winning entry in 2003 centered on this concept as an opportunity and methodology for unifying the 512 acre park with a consistent and understandable language involving built and landscaped elements.

Reception hut in Transylvania, Romania by blipsz architecture

Friday, December 18th, 2015

Article source: blipsz architecture

A familiar element of the denser rural fabric translates half-distance between the village and it’s high forests and pasture: on the “sacred perimeter” defined by the ruin of the late medieval village church and an outpost chapel, where the Saint Anna well and bathing pond are located. The design of the reception hut derives from the buildings of permanent rural homesteads and seasonally used stables scattered on the higher grazing fields. However, traditional volume, structure and details are adapted to current times, especially prefabrication needs – while shingles, hand-split, provide for natural texture.

The Social Plant in Toplița, Romania by blipsz architecture

Wednesday, December 16th, 2015

Article source: blipsz architecture

The Mayor’s Office of Toplita initiates the rehabilitation of a former industrial facility ahead of the great majority of towns in Romania. Instead of keeping away from these types of real estate values or adopting a scheme of denial, concealment, the proposal „raises” the building from the level of an infrastructural facility to the grade of a community facility: and creating the charming metaphore of a former heating facility as a lively social center.

Neudorf sports hall in France by Atelier Zündel Cristea

Sunday, December 13th, 2015

Article source: Atelier Zündel Cristea

The Neudorf area of Strasbourg is undergoing a major programme of redevelopment to fill the void that currently separates the city centre from its southern neighbourhoods. This urban project particularly exploits the site’s central location and the pleasant canal-side landscape, proposing densification as an alternative response to the sprawl of housing and facilities on the edges of the city.

The Polish House in gm. Gródek nad Dunajcem, Poland by BXBstudio Boguslaw Barnas

Tuesday, December 8th, 2015

Article source: BXBstudio Boguslaw Barnas

Polish House was shown at London Festival of Architecture as part of Wallpaper Directories 2014.

The project was shortlisted for 15th cycle of the 20+10+X World Architecture Community Awards.

Design of the Polish House is based on the polish timber architecture, polish rural culture, picturesque churches covered on the roof by wood shingle, slender watchtowers, old-polish manor houses and open-air museums – full of spectacular wooden constructions. This house is a modern interpretation of unique and rich polish cultural heritage which is not quite visible in international design trends.
