Scouting Rhenova in Utrecht, The Netherlands by EVA

Tuesday, July 7th, 2015

Article source: EVA

Commissioned by the scouting association Rhenova, this is a clubhouse designed on a triangular site adjacent to the Leidsche Rijn Park. We chose an autonomous, oval volume that fits within this context. As a Scouthome, it was important that the inside and outside — the building and the grounds — interact. But also that it be a familiar, tough building.

Pedestrian & cyclist bridge Expo 2015 in Milan, Italy by Studio PP8

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

Article source: Studio PP8

The footbridge by studio PP8 was created as part of the city of Milan’s ongoing urban plan. The steel structure crosses the A8 motorway at Arese, giving a safe passage to pedestrians and cyclists to the Milan expo area. The footbridge is composed of cross steel tubes, with corrugated steel slabs on two levels, one for foot traffic and the other for bikers. To avoid uncomfortable acceleration produced by running people it was inserted a TMD (Tuned Mass Daper) just under the corrugated steel slab, in the middle of the main span.

Ekklesia in Valencia, Spain by Pink Intruder

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

Article source: Pink Intruder

It is an installation made with cardboard tubes with a metallic appearance atop a mosaic made of 96,000 wooden pieces.

During the Fallas festival in Valencia held every year the ultimate goal of these installations is to be burned to celebrate the arrival of spring.  In this context we built a structure entirely of cardboard and wood joints. The purpose was to investigate to what extent we could carry up this type of structure, and also to place in a traditional context a contemporary image to provoke the debate between tradition and modernity.
