SIOFOK PLAZA in Hungary by A4 studio Ltd.

Sunday, October 26th, 2014

Article source: A4 studio Ltd.

Already more than 200 years, Siófok is the Capital City of Lake Balaton, which is the largest lake in Middle-East Europe. We planned the “Sió Pláza” Shopping Centre into the middle of the renewable main square of the centre of the renewable downtown. The modern XXI. Century building is situated between the two historical symbols of the city, the Water Tower, was built in 1912, and the Pub, was built in 1895. Our aim was to plan a building that communicates with its environment, the historical city centre, continuously. We developed a transparent glass facade towards the main square of the city, with a cobweb-like metal screen. The shops were strung on 3 levels onto the inner shopping arcade of the shopping centre. The food and drug store received place on the minus first floor, the restaurant, branch and other services on the ground floor and the first floor. The entertainment (cinema, bowling, restaurants) is situated in the supreme floor. The building of the old Pub is integrated into the new building by the inner shopping arcade. The new functions are a bookshop and a cafe, with own garden. The remaining facades are planted with green plants.

Contemporary Art Center in Baia Mare, Romania by Suzana Maria Ciplea

Saturday, October 11th, 2014

Article source: Suzana Maria Ciplea

For the first time since the fall of communism, the Baia Mare’s city government is trying to revitalize the city’s identity, unique in Europe because of the \”The Baia Mare Art School of Painting – (founded in 1896)\” by creating workshops for artists, creative camps, and exhibition spaces. Inspired by this initiative the project that I propose represents a new monument that will historically contribute to this city – a new landmark, daring and poetic, which rebirths the spirit of “The Baia Mare Art School of Painting”. I wish that this city will become a magnet for plastic artists.

Lycée Louis Barthou in Pau, France by Pierre Marsan

Monday, September 8th, 2014

Article source: Pierre Marsan

In this project, a forest delimits a vast area in the centre of a major heritage site in the City of Pau. The forest is crossed by a network of paths and clearings. A series of shelters and a sanitary facility define a large courtyard. The ground is deformed arbitrarily by folding and unfolding that create volumes where the ground, walls and roofs become a single entity.

Residential building DMT in St. Florian, Upper Austria by [tp3] architekten

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014

Article source: [tp3] architekten

The new residential house has been built on the basement of the old one and is now accessible through a generous staircase.
The basic idea for this single-story residence follows the analogy of an old Roman atrium, however, in this case the courtyard opens up towards the terrace and expands to the garden. Through this opening arise not only different view relationships but also various zones from private to semi-public.

Residential building KUK in Hainfeld, Lower Austria by [tp3] architekten ZT GmbH

Tuesday, August 19th, 2014

Article source: [tp3] architekten ZT GmbH

Starting point for this project was the desire for a closed and introverted building structure that provides protection and security. The requirement to design a one-story building and the high demand of rooms made it possible to realize a u-shaped atrium around the existing summer house. The guest unit, the indoor pool as well as the residential area were aligned one after another along the property line. Therefore the building functions like a huge wall that creates an intimate courtyard granting protection and security.
